The only thematic novelty in "Defying Gravity," John Keitel's modestly agreeable feature directorial debut, is that its coming-out story takes place at a university frat house. Nonetheless, made with a good deal of charm, this aptly titled drama is a likely bet for theatrical release and is bound to please gay men, particularly young ones. Pic should easily travel the global gay festival circuit.

The endearingly naive "Defying Gravity" is undoubtedly a personal film; the writer-director is close in age to his main characters, half a dozen white students sharing a frat house on an unnamed campus (pic was shot at USC, where Keitel was a graduate film student).

Affable and cute, Griff (Daniel Chilson), the ultimate frat boy, spends a hot night with frat brother Pete (Don Handfield), who lives off-campus. But he can't face the notion --- and the responsibility --- that he's gay, still continuing a flirtatious affair with Gretchen (Nicki Lynn), a fetching sorority girl who doesn't excite him much. Griff's best friend, the very straight Todd (Niklaus Lange), is also unaware of his buddy's emerging sexual orientation, though he senses that their relationship is changing.

An argument one night between Pete and Griff in a West Hollywood coffee shop ends badly. Unbeknownst to Griff, later that night, Pete becomes a victim of gay-bashing that sends him to the hospital. Griff finds out about the incident from a TV news report, and recalls seeing a suspicious-looking truck following Pete into a dark alley.

Rest of the overly familiar drama is devoted to Griff's dual dilemma of whether to report the case to the police (a theme used in numerous youth movies, most recently in "All Over Me") and put himself on the line, and when to tell Todd his "secret." The melodramatic plot gets some necessary tension when it becomes clear that members of Griff's frat house were involved in the bashing, which results in a moralistic confrontation, eventually forcing him to begin a new, more mature life on his own.

What helps this meller overcome its stock situations is a gallery of credible and positive characters. Prominent among them is Denetra (Linna Carter), Griff's African-American classmate, who's confused about her own sexuality and becomes a trusted confidante during his moral crisis.Todd is a more sensitive and understanding straight buddy than was the norm in most gay movies until the 1990s.

Low-budget pic, reportedly shot in only 13 days, is directed by Keitel with a good measure of honesty and taste. There are no great performances (three lead thesps are no more than OK), but overall the cast is handsome and appealing. Young gay men will relate to the heartfelt tale, whereas older ones will grin with deja vu, particularly when Griff tries to convince himself that his sexual attraction to men "is only a phase.

Daniel (Fernando Guillén Cuervo) is a middle-aged, gay man who comes from an established family and lives a charmed, middle-class existence. He is a "regular" of Madrid's gay bar scene sometimes hunting for good-looking, young foreigners. At one of these bars, he meets Kyril (Dritan Beba), a hunky 23-year-old Bulgarian. After a night of animalistic passion, Daniel is under his Eastern European spell. Wild, reckless and slightly dangerous, Kyril seems to turn Daniel's conservative and rather predictable life upside down. With each sexual encounter with his Bulgarian lover, Daniel is pulled deeper into Kyril's web of nefarious activities. Can Daniel meet the challenges of his brand new lover or has he bitten off more than he can chew?

Sjajni Leonardo Sbaraglia i Eduardo Noriega imaju savršenu hemiju na ekranu, a celokupnoj seksepilnosti filma doprinosi i nepopravljivo-strejt lik kojeg tumači Pablo Echarri.

Tagline: They were called the twins, but they were lovers
Plot Outline: Burnt Money, which premiered at the 2000 Toronto International Film Festival, is set in Argentina in 1965 and is the fourth film by director Marcelo Piñeyro. This true story follows the tumultuous relationship between two men who became lovers and ultimately ruthless bank robbers in a notoriously famous footnote in the annals of Argentinian crime history. Nene (Leonardo Sbaraglia), Angel (Eduardo Noriega) and Cuervo (Pablo Echarri) are bank robbers who flee from Argentina across the border to Uruguay after a large-scale hold-up that turns bloody. Angel is hurt and the three must lay low until Angel recovers. Nene and Angel are known to everyone they know as "the twins" because of their resemblance, but the two are not brothers at all - they are involved in a steamy homosexual relationship. To get back to Argentina, the group must first wait for Fontana, the brains behind the robbery, to arrange for passports. Anxious from hiding, Cuervo decides to break curfew and go party. After Nene and Angel also decide to take off, Nene meets a prostitute named Giselle and Angel ends up getting in a fight. The group is forced to abandon their refuge and Angel and Nene decide to move in with Giselle. However, the sexual attraction between Nene and Angel burns too strongly and when Nene gets hostile with Giselle and kicks her out, she goes straight to the police to snitch on the group. It's not long before police are surrounding the building and the fate of Nene and Angel appears to be sealed. Written by Strand Releasing {www.strandreleasing.com}

A poetic masterpiece, 26 January 2006, 9/10
Author: Ricardo Aquino (ricbigi@yahoo.com.br) from Recife, Brazil

I cannot forget the images that Marcelo Piñeyro conjured up and was able to capture in this film. Everything, the visuals, the literate script, with its sensitive, sensuous, heartbreaking dialogue, the suspense that does not leave you for a single minute, the violent finale that you expect and still keep hoping it will not happen, the exquisite acting of all the major players, it will all stay with me, forever, I am sure. This is film-making of the best kind: contemporary, mature, it relates to reality but transcends it and reaches a perfectly beautiful, artistic, poetic level. This is also a film that treats a gay relationship with total honesty and truth. The characters have their faults, but none of them has to do with their sexuality. They make, indeed, a beautiful pair, and I wish they would have had a chance to be happy together, somewhere, somehow, at the end.

C.R.A.Z.Y (2005)

Ustvari to krijem ko zmija noge!

34342614wz0Latter Days is a gay romantic drama released in 2003. Set in Los Angeles, California it portrays the seduction of Aaron Davis, a Mormon missionary, by Christian Markelli, a party animal who falls in love with him. The film, written and directed by C. Jay Cox, stars Steve Sandvoss as Aaron, Wes Ramsey as Christian, Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Elder Ryder, and Rebekah Johnson as Julie Taylor. Mary Kay Place and Jacqueline Bisset have supporting roles.
Latter Days premiered at the Philadelphia International Gay & Lesbian Film Festival on 10 July 2003. It was released across America over the next 12 months, and was released, mostly at gay film festivals, in a few other countries.[1] It was the first film to openly show the clash between the principles of the Mormon church and homosexuality, and its exhibition in some states was polemic. Various religious groups demanded the movie to be retired from theatres and DVD stores under boycott threats.
The movie was not well received by film critics, although it was popular with most film festival attendees. In 2004 T. Fabris made Latter Days into a novel, which was published by Alyson Publications.
71912172oh2Elder Aaron Davis (Steve Sandvoss), a young Mormon missionary from Pocatello, Idaho, is sent to Los Angeles with three other missionaries to spread the Mormon faith. They move into a bungalow apartment next to the apartment of openly gay party boy Christian Markelli (Wes Ramsey), an aspiring actor who works as a waiter at Lila’s, a trendy restaurant owned by retired actress Lila Montagne (Jacqueline Bisset). Intrigued by his new, sober Mormon neighbors, Christian makes a $50 bet with his cynical co-workers that he can seduce one of them. Christian soon realizes that Aaron, the most inexperienced missionary, is a closeted homosexual.
Aaron and Christian become acquainted after several encounters in the apartment complex. When Christian accidentally cuts himself on a piece of metal and faints, Aaron helps him indoors and cleans his wound. Christian seizes the opportunity to seduce Aaron and nearly succeeds. However, the hesitant Mormon becomes upset by Christian’s standard patter that sex “doesn’t have to mean anything.” Aaron angrily replies that Christian “equates sex with a handshake”, and after accusing him of being superficial and shallow, walks out. Worried that Aaron is right, Christian joins Project Angel Food to deliver meals to people with AIDS, through which he befriends a man named Keith (Erik Palladino).

The Book of Revelation (2006)

The Book of Revelation is a 2006 Australian film directed by Ana Kokkinos, which she adapted with Andrew Bovell to screen from the novel by Rupert Thomson. It was produced by Al Clark, with original music by Cezary Skubiszewski. The movie was unique for its detailed visuals of a non statutory female on male rape.
Daniel (Tom Long), a charismatic dancer, is drugged and abducted in an alley by three hooded women. They proceed to torture and rape him in an abandoned warehouse for about two weeks, before they take him in their car and dump him out.

When he is left to return to his normal life, he loses his ability to dance and has problems relating with his environment. To reclaim his identity, he seeks revenge. He does so by hitting on every woman who responds to him hoping his abductors would be among them.

The film was nominated for Best Screenplay - Adapted, Best Original Music Score and Best Costume Design awards at the Australian Film Institute in 2006. It won the Best Music Score (Cezary Skubiszewski) at the Film Critics Circle of Australia Awards, where it was nominated for four more awards.

Bathhouse (2005)

Bathhouse: a place where gay men can go to relax, kick off their shoes (and clothes) and enjoy each other's company. “Bathhouse” takes you into this world of towel clad men, back room sex and the search for that ever elusive perfect boyfriend.

One night while at the baths, young campus nerd Rico (Ray An Dulay) meets heartthrob Cris (Jet Alcantara), the chemistry between them is immediately hot and intense. Once that fire cools Rico thinks he has found the ideal man but finds himself on a roller coaster ride of love, jealousy and infidelity as Cris continues his conquest of the baths.

Made in the same guerrilla style of his earlier film, Cris Pablo once again uses striking images and strong characters to tell the story of gay life in the Philippines.
Filming on a miniscule budget, gay Filipino filmmaker Crisaldo Pablo has created a sweet, involving drama about a young gay man's coming of age. But this is not a standard British/US coming-of-age film, it's the story of gay man's sexual awakening in a Manilla bathhouse. Exotic and filled with hot Asian boys, Bathhouse is definitely a treat we loved.

A young college student Rico, who lives at home with his close-knit family, hits the baths looking for someone he has had text and phone conversations with. When that boy doesn't pan out he explores this new world of men seeking sex. The host of the baths is the convivial femme boy Genesis who makes sure he's the only femme in the club! This bathhouse is for "men" only he says. Rico spies the older Cris, a hunky guy in his thirties. After very hot sex, with no full frontal nudity guys, Rico tries to get some kind of committment from his new trick. After all, he doesn't want to have sex with just anyone. When you meet a guy at the baths, don't expect marriage proposals!!! Anyway Rico continues to explore his newfound sexuality and desires. His life hits the rocks when he dramatically comes out to his family, but love wins out.

Without any of the high-pitched drama one associates with Filipino film, Bathhouse tells it's story with sensuality, romance and just plain compelling storytelling skills.

eatingout21201d948vp8 Since Eating Out, Kyle (Jim Verraros) and Marc (Brett Chukerman, standing in for Ryan Carnes) have had their problems. One isn't trusting, the other has a wandering eye, and when they split, the stage is set for more absurd configurations of sexual interplay. The highlight of Eating Out is a scene in which a fag hag, Gwen (Emily Brooke Hands), sexes up a straight dude on the phone while Marc gives him a blowjob.

eatingout26201dd7dxa8 Gwen's determination is less imaginative this time around, but let's cut the girl a break—by the looks of her, she's seen better days. After Kyle and Marc split and Kyle, Gwen, and Tiffani (Rebekah Kochan) set their sights on a hot piece of man meat of dubious sexual orientation who poses nude for one of their art classes, Gwen unofficially teams up with Marc to seduce Troy (Marco Dapper) while Kyle and Tiffani go for the muscle stud under the pretense that Kyle is an ex-gay and Tiffani is his girlfriend (Kyle's argument: "He'll let me have sex with him if he knows I'm not gay"). Sloppy Seconds is something of a misnomer because the many messes these characters get into are not very spontaneous, eatingout22201da23ix4 but in spite of the schematic setup that leads to a naive Troy sucking his first cock and the whole gang outing the head of Homo No More, the film relishes in capturing those fluid days of youthful abandon when everyone's sexual agency was up for grabs. The film's appearance is close to embarrassing, but the funny-because-it's-true humor is stinging, getting off on the twisted lengths people will go to in order to get their groove on. Of course, the film also has a message: Appearing as Kyle's mother is Mink Stole, who realizes before everyone else does that "different rocks."
