Set in working-class New Jersey, the film stars Bret Roberts as Travis, a young fighter on the rise. Those close to him, especially his trainer Pascoe (Greg Mullavey), object to Travis hanging around best friend Jacko (Brian Austin Green). Perpetually the subject of rumors concerning his sexual orientation, Travis ends up unwittingly taking part in a gay bashing incident. Jacko begins hiding out from tough guy Dumiak (Darin Heames). Even though he has a girlfriend, Annie (Wendy Fowler), Travis admits that his style of boxing may have something to do with his hidden homosexual yearnings.

Every second of surfing footage in this film is so mind-blowingly gorgeous, you won’t want to take your eyes off the screen. Which is good, because almost nothing else is going to grab your attention.

The Hoff family has three brothers: Jesse (Lachlan Buchanan) , a 17 year old wanna-be surfer, living in the shadow of former surf champion and half-brother Victor (Reshad Strik), whose life is in ruins due to a knee injury and a drinking problem; and Fergus (Xavier Samuel), who dies his hair purple, wears nail polish and Clash t-shirts, and is in the midst of discovering that he might be homosexual.

Opening with tryouts for a surf competition that would catapult the winner into the International circuit, the film meanders through the various struggles of the three boys and their friends, broken up by those gorgeous surfing shots mentioned earlier (and speaking of gorgeous, it’s worth noting that every young person in this movie is extremely good looking, and often nearly naked as well).

A turning point is reached when the teenagers decide to lie to their parents and take a camping trip on the beach to do what typical teenagers do: smoke pot, drink, have sex – and surf, of course. When Victor winds up at the same beach and finds Jesse practicing in order to be the next champion, egos rise and a fierce competition results in (highly predictable) tragedy.

A Queer Try ( Documentary - BBC Channel )

A Queer Try ( Documentary - BBC Channel )

No nije svudje tako.

'If at first you don't succeed, try and try again' could easily be the motto for rugby team The Ulster Titans.

Formed in the summer of 2007, the Ulster Titans came from virtually nothing – no kit, no playing grounds and no teams to play against – to become one of the most talked about rugby teams in the land. The reason? Because many of the team's members are gay.

A Queer Try, a new three-part series starting on BBC One Northern Ireland on Friday, September 5 at 9.30pm, follows this group of men as they struggle to score a single try through to becoming a force to be reckoned with on the rugby pitch. Against the odds, this motley bunch of guys are determined to make it as a talented and recognised gay rugby team.

Since forming just over a year ago, The Ulster Titans have gone on to attract 25 members, both gay and straight. Some of the team are very fit and have played serious rugby with passion for many years. Other members are perhaps not so fit, but through time have gained both experience and enthusiasm for the game.

This series charts the team's humble beginnings to their search for glory at The Bingham Cup, an international rugby competition named after Mark Kendall Bingham, one of the victims of September 11 who was a keen rugby player, playing for the gay and bisexual rugby team, San Francisco Fog RFC.

But this is not just a story about sport. The cluster of individuals who make up this team each have their own unique personalities and backgrounds which come together to make this series a melting pot of stories from a group of remarkable men who happen to be gay.

A Queer Try follows the team as they try to achieve acceptance in a testosterone-driven and perhaps even blinkered, world and their journey to the Bingham Cup is a roller coaster of emotional ups and downs.

We watch the team as they blossom into better players; swap scrums for 'scrumminess' to hit the catwalk for a fashion show; take part in their first Gay Pride as a team and then literally get their kit off for the obligatory 'nude' rugby team calendar! They even became embroiled in some political controversy when Edwin Poots described the setting up of a gay rugby team as 'apartheid'.

A Queer Try is a story of blood, sweat and tears but with plenty of laughter, and perhaps even triumph, thrown in.

Ian Dougan, producer and director of A Queer Try, says: "When I first heard that Northern Ireland was getting its first gay rugby team, I wasn't sure what to expect. But, after spending a lot of time with the team, I realized that this was going to be something very special. We spent a year with the guys – who were a real mixture of very different types of men – as they evolved into a real team.

"Without giving too much away, the experiences of The Ulster Titans, from kicking a ball around a field to the gay world cup, was beyond what I could have hoped for. A Queer Try will hopefully challenge the way viewers will perceive gay men in sport – and will introduce them to a group of great guys and make their experience on the way to The Bingham Cup one they can also share."

A Queer Try is a Straightforward production for BBC Northern Ireland.

Breaking the Surface: The Greg Louganis Story (1997) (TV)

Breaking the Surface: The Greg Louganis Story (1997) (TV)

English:

Gregory ("Greg") Efthimios Louganis (born January 29, 1960 in El Cajon, California) is an American diver, who is best known for winning back-to-back Olympic titles in both the 3m and 10m diving events. He received the James E. Sullivan Award in 1984 as the top amateur athlete in the United States.

Louganis is of Samoan/Swedish descent and was raised in California by his adoptive parents, a Greek-American couple. At age 16, he took part in the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal, where he placed second in the tower event, behind Italian Klaus Dibiasi. Two years later, with Dibiasi retired, Louganis went on to win his first world title in the same event.

In 1978, he accepted a diving scholarship to the University of Miami where he studied theater, but in 1981 transferred to the University of California, Irvine, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts.

Louganis was a favorite for two golds in the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow. But an American boycott of the games, instituted by U.S. President Jimmy Carter, in protest of the Soviet invasion and occupation of Afghanistan, prevented him from participating.

Louganis won two world titles in 1982, and in the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, with record scores and leads over his opponents, Louganis won gold medals in both the springboard and tower diving events.

After winning two more world championship titles in 1986, he repeated his 1984 feat in the 1988 Seoul Olympics, although not without difficulties. In what is considered one of the greatest feats in sporting history, Louganis suffered an injury, hitting his head on the diving board during the preliminary rounds while performing a reverse 2 1/2 pike; he completed the preliminaries, despite a concussion, then went on to repeat the dive during the finals, with nearly perfect scores, earning him the gold medal. His incredible comeback earned him the title of ABC's Wide World of Sports Athlete of the Year for 1988.

Louganis posed nude for Playgirl magazine in 1987.

In 1994, Louganis announced he was gay; he took part in the 1994 Gay Games as diving announcer, and performed an exhibition of several dives to a standing-room only crowd of nearly 3,000 spectators.

In 1995, Louganis's autobiography co-written with Eric Marcus, entitled Breaking the Surface, was published. Louganis revealed publicly the domestic abuse and rape he suffered from a live-in lover and that he was HIV-positive. The announcement caused some controversy because of the belief, as expressed by then-United States Olympic Committee executive director Dr. Harvey Schiller,[1] that he should have disclosed his HIV status during the 1988 Olympic games because his diving board injury resulted in light bleeding. Louganis had agonized over whether to disclose his status but was later advised by AIDS expert Dr. Anthony Fauci that the injury posed no danger of infection to fellow competitors.[2]

Following the announcement of his HIV status, Louganis was dropped by most of his corporate sponsors, with the exception of the aquatics gear manufacturer Speedo, which continues to sponsor him as of 2007.
