NOAH'S ARC - Seasson 1 and 2 (2004 )

Američka TV stanica LOGO je prije 3 godine emitovala seriju Noah's Arc. Serija je bila veoma popularna medju gay populacijom, a zvali su je crnački Queer as folk, mada je po meni daleko bolja od ovog pomenutog serijala. Na žalost iz nikom poznatih razloga nakon druge sezone bez ikakvog objašnjenja serija je prekinuta.
Uslijedila su mnoga pitanja u vezi toga, pa čak i mnogobrojna otkazivanja pretplate na taj kablovski kanal od strane ljutih gledalaca.
Možda je i to razlog zašto je danas najpopularniji gay kanal u US HereTV.

Noah's Arc is an American cable television program. Often referred to as a comedy-drama, the show integrated socially-relevant issues such as same sex dating, same sex marriage, HIV awareness, infidelity, sexual curiosity, promiscuity, gay bashing and same sex parenthood. It had parallels to and had been cited as an African-American version of the shows Sex and the City, Queer as Folk, The Golden Girls and has also been cited as a gay version of the shows Living Single and Girlfriends.

Overview

Set in Los Angeles, the show features the lives of four male African-American homosexual friends dealing with everyday trials, tribulations, triumphs and tragedies. Noah's Arc premiered on October 19, 2005 on the Logo television network. The series was Logo's most popular program. Season one was filmed in Los Angeles. Season two was filmed in Vancouver, Canada.

The show arose from humble beginnings. The pilot was produced independently and, to assist in funding each episode, the show was originally envisioned as a DVD subscription series. During the pilot filming, Rodney Chester's (who portrays Alex) own truck was used for the actors to have their make-up, hair and wardrobe fittings. Logo pursued the series after the pilot was well-received at film festivals, independent circuits and special screenings. Some scenes from the original pilot were either re-shot or removed for airing on Logo. The original pilot is included in the season one DVD release. The opening credits theme song is "Remember Love" (Samba Mix) by Adriana Evans.

Sa puta sam se vratio prije dva dana, al sam se prehladio do te mjere da me mrzilo da palim računar.
Iako sam za ova dva dana skinuo 7-8 filmova ni jedan nisam pogledao. Zato sam nakon ove duže pauze odlučio da vam djelimično predstavim jednu
kompilaciju kratkih fimova. Kažem djelimično jer nemam namjeru da vam opisujem svaki film pojedinačno. Filmovi su rađeni u Francuskoj produkciji Canala +, a svaki je za sebe pravo malo remek djelo. Ima nešto u nama što nas natijera da učinimo neki nepromišljen potez, nešto zbog čega kasnije možemo zažaliti. Samokontrola je jedini način da se odbranimo od opasne želje. Bio sam u situciji da sam kolima pokupio jednog prelijepog momka.
Izgledao je odlično, vidi se da vodi računa o sebi, a svojom pojavom i pričom me je strašno privlačio. Otišli smo na večeru i nakon toga skrenuli autom u jednu nedođiju gdje smo se prepustili želji i strasti. U jednom momentu sam ga pitao imaš li kondom, rekao je NEMAM.
Iako teška srca obukao sam se i upalio auto. Rastali smo se bez i jedne rječi. Da ga nisam pitao nastavio bi to što smo započeli bez razmišljanja.

Ove kratke male priče nam govore o poslijedicama kada nam strast nadjača zdravi razum!

U deset kratkin priča možete sagledati različite aspekte homoseksualnih romanci. Svaka je na svoj način poučna i edukativna u cilju suzbijanja AIDS-a u gay populaciji.

This is not a feature film, but a collection of 10 shorts. The total running time is 70 minutes. All except the first are in French with English subtitles. All are either directly or obliquely (sometimes very obliquely indeed) about AIDS. None are exceptional. I have been known to enjoy DVD collections of short gay-themed films. If some of them are not very good, at least I enjoy the different perspectives that filmmakers bring in their examination of what it means to lead a gay life. For me, none of these films was remotely interesting. If you are looking for some smart, sexy, French short films, rent the collection of François Ozon's short films that has been released to DVD.

Different aspects of homosexual romance are explored in this compendium of short vignettes. The film is designed as sort of a gay version of 1994's 3,000 Scenarios to Combat a Virus, an anthology that was comprised of 30 short films -- made by some of France's best
directors -- out of story ideas submitted by school children on ways to deal with the AIDS virus. In this film however, the selection committee had no age limit and received about a thousand potential stories. The ten selected vignettes (three of which do not deal with AIDS at all ) encompass a broad look at the subject and range for the tale of a lesbian teen trying to come out to her parents, to a gay man who shocks his lover by claiming to be pregnant, to another man's reminiscence of a brief affair with an HIV-positive man. Tačno znate da je čovijek koji sjedi naspram vas onaj koji vas maltretira, laže, vara... Pa što onda i dalje sjedite sa njim?
Zašto varate samog sebe? E pa u narodu se kaže: Lubav nije krtola ! Nije sve tako jednostavno kada su emocije u pitanju!

Radnja ovog filma je smještena pred kraj drugog svjetskog rata u jednom malom francukom selu.
Guy Rouveron je priprosti seljak koji živi u kolibi podalje od sela. Živi u svjetu koji je sam sebi izgradio, emocionalno nedozreo, pateći od iznenadnih halucinacija, koje ga otimaju iz surovog okruženja u kojem živi. Nalazi ranjenog njemačkog vojnika Rolfa, odnese ga u svoju kolibu i liječi ga, njeguje ga, nijemo posmatra.
Rolf kada ozdravi pokušava da se vrati u svoju jedinicu, a Guy, koji ga je zavolio na neki sebi poseban način pokušava da ga zadrži kod sebe.
Između njih se stvara posebna emotivna veza, uzajmna privlačnost i želja da budu jedan sa drugim. U početku ne u seksualnom smislu, al kasnije se to nekako prirodno nametne među njima.
Ljudi koji bi se trebali mrziti postaju emotivno ovisni jedan od drugom, djeleći želju da budu zajedno, otrgnuti od ostatka svjeta u kojem vlada pravilo da treba da se mrze i ubijaju.
U okruženju u kojem su se našli njihovo zajedništvo je osuđeno na najtežu moguću kaznu.
Film koji zaista vrijedi pogledati više puta!

A modern gay classic, We Were One Man takes place in France in 1943 and is the story of Guy, a French farmer about to be married, and Rolf, a wounded German soldier. Vallois made a film which is not easy to watch and one never forgets it, since this film speaks out things normally silenced. Love between persons of different sex is theme in many war time movies where border line separates the lovers and the rest is sentimental crap. But here we have two men who should hate each other, as men should, even if they are not enemies. They are, however, in a secluded hut, mid-forest, also metaphorically: they don't know anything about each other than what they see. No common language. But in their flesh they begin to know each other, little by little: they are men, they have the same urges and because of the war times they don't have to play social plays. They don't need the illusion a civilized life requires; they joyfully agree in being straightforward in their physical needs. Communication is all but easy but they show us art and practice we don't know anymore, not in everyday life. They attack each other directly in flesh, both in sensitive way and aggressively, ending up making love or running away from each other. Vallois' film is like a well structured reality document where one looks the world that should be there somewhere but one knows that any peace and civilized state of mind make a life like that impossible. Men simply can't love each other without Mothers giving them rules for that.

Činjenica je da svi imamo nekek male tajne koje ne želimo nikome reći. Dugo sam bio u vezi sa jednim čovijekom pred kojim samimao mnogo tajni. Naprosto ta je veza i započela u laži. Opterećivalo me je to dugo vremena iako sam malo po malo sve otkrivao. Kako sam koju tajnu otkrio tako mi je padao kamen sa srca. U svom tom haosu nisam ni slutio da i druga strana ima toliko tajni, laži i prećutkivanja. Kada sam sve otkrio doživio sam nervni slom i trenutno raskinuo svaki kontakt sa njim! I dan danas je u ignore na svim mojim messenger listama.
U ovom filmu je prikazano nešto slično.
Antonia teško preživljava smrt muža koji je poginuo u saobraćajnoj nesreći. Kopajući po njegovim stvarima malo po malo drugu stranu muževljeve ličnosti. Susreće se sa njegovim prijateljima koje ranije nije poznavala. Isprva ne može da prihvati gay okruženje, ali polako shvata da svi ljudi nisu isti i ne žive po nametnutim društvenim normativima..

Strangely, very few films with gay themes are made in Italy. Ignorant Fairies, set in Rome, breaks the mould with some sensitivity. It was not, however, made by an Italian-born director: although he lives in Rome, Ferzan Ozpetek is Turkish.

In Ignorant Fairies, a middle-class doctor, who works in an Aids clinic, loses her husband in a car crash and then discovers that he had been conducting a long affair with a working-class man, who loved him as much as she did. The title of the film is ironic, but not in the obvious way. It springs from the title of one of the dead man's paintings, which, the wife realises, has an intimate dedication to his male lover.
Although bitter at first, the woman tries to make friends with the lover. Her effort backfires as he brushes her away, resentful that he has had to live a secret life because of her. But gradually the two begin to make contact - half fascinated by the fact that the husband appeared to love them both, and half attracted to each other. There is a particularly good scene at a party where both are flirting with others but attract each other's attention, as if drawn together by loss and the need for comfort.

Ozpetek attempts, with some success, to paint both the male and female participants in the triangle with even-handed sympathy. Neither is a paragon, and the class difference is as vital as any sexual preferences. She lives in a smart suburb, in some luxury; he is a stallholder in a local market, and lives in a commune that may or may not be gay.

The director also avoids tacking on a tidy conclusion to the film, following the wife's discovery that she is pregnant with her husband's child. Hollywood would have matched up the two. Instead, Ozpetek ends his film with flashbacks to the 2000 Gay Pride celebrations in Rome, which both the Vatican and the Italian prime minister at the time tried first to ban and then to relocate. We do not know what will happen to these two people, but we guess that both have a better understanding of each other and of the man who divided himself between them for so long.

The acting is first-rate. Margherita Buy's wife and Stefano Accorsi's gay lover both make the film more about love, loss and deception than about sexuality. Ozpetek orchestrates their fraught relationship with maturity and skill; this, his first film made in Italy after Hamam and Harem Suare, is undoubtedly his best.

Ovaj fim inače spada u moje omiljene melodrame. Raspekmezim se ko prava pička kada god ga pogledam. A vjerujem da je malo pedera koji su ga odgledali, a da nisu pustili koju suzu!:)) Nemogu reći da je gluma u ovom filmu vrhunska, ali na kraju krajeva za filmove ovog tipa to i nije u prvom planu. Priča u ovom filmu je fenomenalna i naprosto nas drži prikovane za ekran. Ne znam baš mnogo o mormonima jer koliko znam oni su Američki endem, neka religijska sekta. Po ovom filmu mormoni spadaju u one zatucane, konzervativne slijepce koji homoseksualce smatraju bolesnicima, te bi ih najradije strpali u bolnicu. ( Neka izvine ako griješim! )

Između jednog takvog mormona Aarona i jednog outovanog pedera se razvije ljubav prepuna emocija i dubioza. Jeste li bili kada u vezi sa nekim koji se boji svoje sjenke? E takav sam i ja nekada bio, mada ni sada ne vrištim na sav glas da sam peder. Ustvari to krijem ko zmija noge! E koliko je teško sa takvim likovima biti, to znaju samo oni koji su samnom bili! A šta se desilo Aaronu kada su njegovi prijatelji saznali da je peder pogledajte u ovom filmu. Jedno je sigurno, ma koliko teško i nevjerovatno izgledalo, kada iskreno volite sve će te prepreke savladati, preskočiti milion planina, okrenuti planetu ako treba samo da bi došli do onoga za kim vam srce kuca. Tako je to !

Latter Days is a gay romantic drama released in 2003. Set in Los Angeles, California it portrays the seduction of Aaron Davis, a Mormon missionary, by Christian Markelli, a party animal who falls in love with him. The film, written and directed by C. Jay Cox, stars Steve Sandvoss as Aaron, Wes Ramsey as Christian, Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Elder Ryder, and Rebekah Johnson as Julie Taylor. Mary Kay Place and Jacqueline Bisset have supporting roles.

Latter Days premiered at the Philadelphia International Gay & Lesbian Film Festival on 10 July 2003. It was released across America over the next 12 months, and was released, mostly at gay film festivals, in a few other countries.[1] It was the first film to openly show the clash between the principles of the Mormon church and homosexuality, and its exhibition in some states was polemic. Various religious groups demanded the movie to be retired from theatres and DVD stores under boycott threats.

The movie was not well received by film critics, although it was popular with most film festival attendees. In 2004 T. Fabris made Latter Days into a novel, which was published by Alyson Publications.

Plot

Elder Aaron Davis (Steve Sandvoss), a young Mormon missionary from Pocatello, Idaho, is sent to Los Angeles with three other missionaries to spread the Mormon faith. They move into a bungalow apartment next to the apartment of openly gay party boy Christian Markelli (Wes Ramsey), an aspiring actor who works as a waiter at Lila’s, a trendy restaurant owned by retired actress Lila Montagne (Jacqueline Bisset). Intrigued by his new, sober Mormon neighbors, Christian makes a $50 bet with his cynical co-workers that he can seduce one of them. Christian soon realizes that Aaron, the most inexperienced missionary, is a closeted homosexual.

Aaron and Christian become acquainted after several encounters in the apartment complex. When Christian accidentally cuts himself on a piece of metal and faints, Aaron helps him indoors and cleans his wound. Christian seizes the opportunity to seduce Aaron and nearly succeeds. However, the hesitant Mormon becomes upset by Christian’s standard patter that sex “doesn’t have to mean anything.” Aaron angrily replies that Christian “equates sex with a handshake”, and after accusing him of being superficial and shallow, walks out. Worried that Aaron is right, Christian joins Project Angel Food to deliver meals to people with AIDS, through which he befriends a man named Keith (Erik Palladino).

Ovo je zaista dobar film ! Zgodni kuvar Tom zavede i dovodi u kuću promiskuitetnog Dana. Zarobljava ga, veže za stolicu i kaže mu da je od njega prije 5 godina dobio virus HIV-a. Dan se ne sijeća da je bio sa njim. Malo po malo prisjeća se da su bili pijani jedne noći i da mu je rekao
da je siguran i bezbjedan za sex.
Tom mu onako vezanom vadi uzorak krvi i daje na analizu. Ako test bude negativan pustiće ga, a ako bude pozitivan ubiće ga.
Vezani Dan i Tom provode zajedno 24 sata dok čekaju rezultate testa. Pričaju, upoznavaju jedan drugog......

The 24th Day is a 2004 film starring Scott Speedman and James Marsden. The film is based on a play of the same name, written by Tony Piccirillo; he also directed the film.
Tom (Speedman) and Dan (Marsden) meet in a bar and then proceed to Tom's apartment together. While there, Dan realizes that he had been in that same apartment before. Five years earlier, Dan and Tom had had a one night stand there. According to Tom, that encounter with Dan was his first and only homosexual experience. Some years later, Tom's wife is found to be HIV positive. Despondent after receiving this diagnosis from her doctor, Tom's wife drives through a red traffic light and is killed in an ensuing collision. Subsequent to these events, medical tests reveal that Tom himself is also HIV positive. Tom blames himself for passing the HIV virus on to his wife and, in turn, he blames Dan for passing the virus on to him. Reasoning that Dan ultimately is to blame for his wife's death, Tom devises a plan to exact revenge. He holds Dan hostage and draws blood from him in order to conduct a test to determine Dan's HIV status. If Dan's test results are positive for the HIV virus, Tom vows to kill Dan. If the results are negative, Tom agrees to release Dan unharmed. In the end, Tom returns to the apartment and lets Dan go. As Dan is leaving Tom asks him when was the last time he was tested? A few moments later he reveals that Dan's test was in fact positive. He decided to let Dan go because he realized that his positive status was the result of his choices and he couldn't blame it on anyone else. The scene fades out with Dan standing there in shock and Tom resigned to what lies ahead.

Sinoć sam do kasno ostao budan gledajući ovaj dokumentarni film. Zaista je fascinirajuće gledati ovaj istorijat LGBT Hollywoodskih filmova. Počev od onih starih filmova sa Chaplinom pa do novijih ostvarenja sa Tom Hanksom i Antonom Banderasom. Dosta filmova koji su u kratkim crtama opisani u ovom dokumentarcu se nalaze i u ovom blogu.

Ovaj sjajan prikaz Gay populacije kroz filmska ostvarenja je nastao na osnovu istoimene knjige Vita Russoa, koji je vršio istraživanje o tome kako je prikazivana gay populacija kroz filmsku umjetnost od 1890. do 1980. i kako je to uticalo na društvo u cjelini. Knjiga je objavljena 1981. god.


Dugo vremena ,a vrlo često i dan danas homoseksualnost je u filmovima prikazivana na tri načina: kao nešto smiješno, kao nešto što treba žaliti ili nešto čega se treba bojati.

Do 60-tih godina, homoseksualnost je vrlo bojažljivo i skriveno prikazivana, bez nekih direktnih i očiglednih prikaza ljubavi prema istome polu. Ako bi se neko i usudio eksplicitnije prikazati neku scenu bio bi trenutno osuđen kao perverznjak , jer se gay love tako i tretirala.
Tek nakon seksualne revolucije 60-tih i 70-tih godina Hollywood se odvažio da eksplicitnije prikaže ovu do tada mračnu stranu ljudske psihe. Depresivni, psihotični ili manijakalni pederi su do tada bili najčešće upotrebljavani , ako se baš moralo prikazati homoseksualnost. Prvi pederi koji su počeli da mjenjaju sliku o njima su bili su oni iz 'The Boys In the Band' (1970), a danas mislim da nema nikoga is generacije 60-tih godina da nije čuo za film "Cabaret" (1972) koji i dan danas volim pogledati.
Od tada pa do današnjih danaje kroz Hollywood protutnjalo gomila pedera, što u filmovima, što u serijama.
Većina pedera je zasigurno odgledala film Cruising (1980) sa Al Pacinom u glavnoj ulozi koji je u americi izazvao burne proteste gay zajednice jer je pedere prikazao kao manijake i ubice.
Interesantno je vidjeti scene iz gomile gay filmova, koji homoseksualnu ljubav prikazuju kao nešto sasvim ljudski, sa puno emocija.
Na žalost pojavom AIDS-a nastaje razdoblje kada je većina pederskih filmova pravljena sa srceparajućim scenama kao ona sa Tom Hanksom i Banderasom u Philadelphiji.

Nadalje će te vidjeti na koji način se Hollywood izborio sa homofobijom u američkom društvu.

The Celluloid Closet (1995) is a documentary film directed and written by Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman. The film is based on the 1981 (revised 1987) book of the same name written by Vito Russo, and on previous lecture and film clip presentations given in person by Russo 1972-82. Russo researched the history of how motion pictures, especially Hollywood films, had portrayed gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender characters. It was given a limited release in select theatres, including the Castro Theatre in San Francisco in April 1996, and then shown on cable channel HBO.

The documentary interviews various men and women connected to the Hollywood industry to comment on various film clips and their own personal experiences with the treatment of LGBT characters in film. From the sissy characters, to the censorship of the Hollywood Production Code, the coded gay characters and cruel stereotypes to the progress made in the early 1990s.

Vito Russo wanted his book to be transformed into a documentary film and helped out on the project until he died in 1990. Some critics of the documentary noted that it was less political than the book and ended on a more positive note. However, Russo had wanted the documentary to be entertaining and to reflect the positive changes that had occurred up to 1990.

Russo was one of the first people to persuade gay and straight people to examine the role that popular culture plays in shaping our attitudes about sexual orientation and gender identity.[citation needed] It started a genre of research that examines how movies, television shows, comic books, and video and computer games depict LGBT people.

Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) gives an award called the Vito Russo Award to openly gay or lesbian people within the Hollywood film industry who advance the cause of fighting homophobia.

Ovo je film koji u meni još uvijek izaziva najjače emocije. Danas sam ga opet pogledao i potresao se kao prije dvije godine kada sam ga prvi put gledao. Na neki način odslikava moj život sada.
Film sam prije dva ljeta gledao sa čovijekom kojeg volim i voljeću dok sam živ. Daleko smo fizički, al u srcem smo uvijek blizu. On oženjen, ima svoj svijet, svoj život, ja opet isto tako, al živimo za dane kada čemo se opet sresti i zagrljeni čutati satima.
Zato kada god pogledam ovaj film nemogu a da ne zanijemim, a da nešto moram reći siguran sam da bi zamuckivao.
No da se vratim na film, da ne opisujem sebe i moj život na ovom mjestu.


Radnja drame se bazira na adaptaciji kratke istoimene priče američke kniževnice, dobitnice pulitzerove nagrade, Anne Proulx, a scenario napisali su Teksašanin Larry McMurtry i Anna Ossana. Film je zbog svoje specifične priče postao interesantan puno prije no što se zavrtio u kinima.

Priča počinje jednog jutra, šezdesetih u konzervativnim pustopoljinama Wyominga kad se Ennis Del Mar (Heath Ledger) i Jack Twist (Jake Gyllenhaal) susrecću na dogovoru za posao kod lokalnog rančera Joea Aguirrea (Randy Quaid). Do tog trenutka obojica su bili prilično uvjereni u to da su stalan posao, žena i djeca sve što žele od života. Kad ih Aguirre pošalje da rade kao pastiri u pitoresknom okružjenju planine Brokeback, Ennis i Jack nađu se u situaciji o kojoj nisu ni sanjali. Duboko prijateljstvo i poštovanje ubrzo prerastaju u intimni odnos pun nježnosti. Po završetku ljeta, moraju se vratiti svojim životima.

Glumac Heath Ledger pronađen je mrtav u svom apartmanu, saopštila je njujorška policija. 28-godišnji Ledger je pronađen u svom stanu na Manhattnu, a tijelo je zatekla njegova kućna pomoćnica.

Dojavu o dogđaju primili su vatrogasci, koji su se odazvali na poziv u pomoć zbog navodnog srčanog udara, no u stanu su zatekli već mrtvo tijelo glumca.

Ledger je glumio jednog od dvojice kauboja koji su održavali tajnu homoseksualnu vezu u filmu "Brokeback Mountain" iz 2005. godine.

I'm 23, and I find it hard to write this review. I saw the film exactly one week ago today and not a moment has gone by when I don't ache. It finds me in the shower; it haunts me in bed; it has filled my mind and clings to my thoughts, and it won't let up. I try to lie to myself, to find some solace by saying that it's just a movie, but I know better. Jack and Ennis are alive, and they represent so many aching people, so many untold stories. There is no contrivance, no manufactured importance; there are no tricks. Brokeback Mountain tells, with painful honesty and frankness, the story of two men's lives and nothing more. Whether you are gay or straight, it doesn't hit close to home: it hits you. Brokeback Mountain is a place we all most desperately yearn to go. It's where we can be free. It feels funny to say that Brokeback Mountain is my favorite film of all time, because I think it almost an injustice to call it a film at all, or to critique its incredible technical sophistication. Somehow Brokeback Mountain transcends that. I could hear a thousand speeches celebrating diversity or read a hundred love stories and not be absolutely broken in just two hours as I was after this film. I've never felt waves of nausea come over me as I did sitting in that theater, my face contorted as I watched truth and honesty spill from the screen and onto moviegoers who had no idea what they were in for. I am usually the first to point out bias, so I know my words might be mistaken for favoritism or blind loyalty. They should not. This movie will change your existence. Torch Song Trilogy je prvi film sa gay tematikom koji sam gledao. Podsjetio me na ta vremena 87-88. godine.
Odkad znam za sebe živim i krećem se u nazovi macho društvu. Takav mi je i posao.Feminiziranost naprosto nije dio mene niti okruženja u kojem živim. A u mom slučaju zbog straha da me neko ne "provali" uvjek sam morao biti i jači i obrazovaniji i naravno mnogo muškiji nego drugi. Zato me mnogi pederi startuju i nadaju se da ću ih dobro "opaliti". Na njihovu žalost rijetko se dešava da ja to zaista i želim.
Jedno je spoljašni izgled , a sasvim drugo ono što želimo.
A u ovoj priči je nešto sasvim obrnuto. Arnold je feminizirani lik koji zna šta hoće i to ne krije. Poštujem taj stav, a da li je teže na moj način ili njegov prosudite sami. U svakom slučaju niti je Arnold veći muškarac od mene , niti ja od njega. Obadvojica smo jaki, uporni, nepokolebljivi i istrajni, bez obzira što smo izgledomi ponašanje potpuno drugačiji.

Ovaj film je nastao na osnovu istoimene Brodwayske predstave Harvey Fiersteina, dobitnika prestižne Pulitzerove nagrade za stvaralaštvo na daskama koje živoz znače. Nakon velikog uspjeha ovog izvanrednog komada, napisao je scenario za ovaj film, snimljen 1986. godine. Film je  autobiografskog karaktera oslikanog kroz život Arnold Beckoffa.
Arnold Beckoff, židov, homoseksualac, tranvestit, koji zarađuje u kabareu kao Queer dama hrapavog glasa je glavni lik ovog filma. Njegovi scenski nastupi su autentični upravo zbog glasa koji se pamti zauvijek. Sam Harvey Fierstein kojeg predstavlja glavni lik ovog filma za svoj glas kaže: “Ja mislim da je svaki glas 30% pjevanje i 70% hrapavost – kod mene je to 95%. I zaista jeste, mozda čak i 98%.” Arnold upoznaje Ed-a sa kojim saznaje šta je to istinska prva ljubav. Principjelan kakav je bio, poštujući samog sebe od Ed-a zahtijeva da ne skriva njihovu vezu. Ed, biseksualac, ne može da pređe preko tradicionalnih manira koji su u njemu duboko ukorijenjeni.
Arnold nastavlja život bez Ed-a koji se nakon toga oženi. Upoznaje Alana, drugu iskrenu ljubav. Prije nego su započeli vezu rekao je Alanu. Živjećemo ako možeš da ispuniš moja pravila, prvo želim da imam dijete, drugo ako neko pita…( ne želim da sakrivamo našu vezu.) Godinu dana kasnije podnose zahtjev za usvajanje. Prije negoli li socijalna služba dovede na starateljstvo 15-godišnjeg Davida, Alan pogiba u uličnoj tuči.
Da ne prepričavam film dalje, ponešto treba i sami da odgledate.
Film je briljantno napravljen, sa odličnom pričom, glumom, muzikom… Geldajući ga prožimale su me različite emocije,, oduševljenje, smijeh, tuga, zebnja i samo mogu zamisliti reakcije publike na Brodwayu ili u kino dvoranama dok se ovaj film prikazivao.
Nakon ovog kultnog filma, koji je izazvao pravu malu kulturnu revoluciju u gay zajednici New Yorka, odnos društva prema ljudima istospolne orjentacije se počeo brže mjenjati.

In 1988 Harvey Fierstein brought his multiple Tony winning, hit Broadway play Torch Song Trilogy to the big screen. He adapted the screenplay and recreated the role of female impersonator and hopeless romantic Arnold Beckoff. I was a 21 year old gay man when I first saw this movie and it had a profound effect on me. I remember walking out of the theater with a newfound sense of belonging.

The story is set in New York City during the golden age of modern gay culture, those liberating years between the Stonewall uprising in 1969 and the advent of the AIDS epidemic in 1981. As the title suggests the story takes place in three acts.

After a brief opening scene where we see a young Arnold playing dress-up in his mother’s closet in 1952 Brooklyn, the story proper begins with Arnold in his dressing room making up for a show in 1971. He delivers a monologue about love directly to the camera, and throughout the movie returns to this cinematic gimmick.

Later that same night Arnold gets picked up at a bar and begins dating Ed, a self-proclaimed bi-sexual. This prompts one of his fellow drag queens to remark, “Just once I’d like to see a bi-sexual that lives with a man and sneaks out to see his girlfriend on the side.”

During the first act we meet Arnold’s disapproving mother (Anne Bancroft playing the role Estelle Getty originated onstage but since Getty was busy playing Sophia on television’s The Golden Girls she was unable to be in the film) and watch as his relationship with Ed goes through several ups and downs. It ends with Ed’s big emotional moment in Arnold’s dressing room.

In act two we meet Alan (played by Matthew Broderick who had originated the role of David in the play). He is a gorgeous young model that falls for Arnold one night after an altercation at the club where Arnold performs. Act two ends on a tragic note.

The third act takes place in 1980 and deals with Arnold’s relationship with David, a troubled gay teenager living with Arnold and whom Arnold hopes to adopt. It culminates with Arnold’s big confrontation with his mother and hints at a possible reconciliation with Ed.

Torch Song Trilogy moves effortlessly between comedy and drama. In the third act David gets sent home from school for fighting. When Arnold asks him what he was fighting about he replies, “He called me a douche bag, so I slugged him.” “How 50’s.” Arnold quips back. Then just a few moments later Arnold and his mother have a dramatic argument where she says, “You shut me out of your life and then blamed me for not being there.”

In subject matter this movie was ahead of its time. Arnold and Alan discuss wanting to get married and raising children and the topic of gay adoption is broached. It also shone a light on gay bashing and offered many straight people their first glimpse into the gay urban subculture (in fact I saw this movie with my brother Eric and he made a similar comment as we were leaving the theater). Drag icon Charles Pierce gets to do his famous Mae West and Bette Davis impersonations.

The cast is excellent. Brian Kerwin is great as Ed and Eddie Castrodad gets a few good scenes as David. Matthew Broderick seems a bit tentative playing Alan though. Anne Bancroft steals her scenes as Arnold’s very Jewish mother. Her best moment takes place at a cemetery where she and Arnold have yet another emotional outburst.

Harvey Fierstein, although not a movie star, makes Arnold a likable average guy and a rather unique leading man. He was the character I identified the most with when I first saw this movie. Given his physical appearance the story is a bit of a fantasy in the sense that he somehow gets two very attractive men to fall in love with him. But then it is his movie so why not?

Torch Song Trilogy was groundbreaking in 1988 and retains its relevance and entertainment value in 2011.

Ovo je zaista zapanjujući film , koji sam odgledao u dahu i nakon kojega sam se osijećao kao nakon pročitane dobre knjige! Vrhunska izvedba, gluma, vizuelni efekti, fotografija i iznad svega priča, bazirana na istinitom događaju.
Film nam priča o slavnom tajlandskom kickbokseru Nong Toomu, travestitu kojemu je sudbina predodredila da se bori za opstanak na najmuškiji mogući način prije nego iz sebe oslobodi ženu.
Film mi je pomogao da shvatim narav travestita kojih sam se zbog nepoznavanja na neki način gnušao i odbacivao.
Nong Toom je rođen u jednoj siromašnoj nomadskoj porodici na Thailandu. Odmalena, prinuđen da radi i bori se za opstanak, je otkrivao svoju drugu stranu ličnosti koja je njegovim sazrevanjem postajala sve jača i izraženija.
Nong Toom je sebe oduvijek smatrao ženom, koja je greškom prirode zarobljena u tijelu muškarca. I te kakvog muškarca ! Snažnog , virtuoznog, zgodnog i privlačnog u svakom pogledu.

Siromaštvo u kojem je odrastao ga je natijeralo da nauči da se bori u kickboksu, nacionalnim sportom na Tajlandu (Muay Thai - Thai kickboxing)
Duboko religiozan, kontrast u njegovom tijelu je shvatao kao svoju karmu govoreći : " U predhodnom životu sam činio loše stvari, zato u ovom moram da patim."
Kada ga je učitelj pitao zašto želiš da boksuješ odgovorio je :" Da bih mogao da zaradim novac i kupim povrće za moju majku!"
Uporno trenirajući kickbox, dok se krijući šminkao i u usamljenim trenucima dozvoljavajući sebi da pokaže svoju žensku stranu, želio je samo jedno, da pomogne roditeljima i da zaradi dovoljno novca da postane žena.
Zaista su dirljive scene u kojima se vidi njegov očaj kada mora da se tuče ili trpi poniženja zbog svojeg ponašanja koje kako su godine prolazile nije mogao da sakriva.
Svoje protivnike koje bi nokautirao u ringu bi poljubio sa mislima " žao mi je što sam te povrijedio, ali u ringu nema drugog izbora.!"
Na vrhuncu slave kada je postao nacionalni prvak u kickboxu, počeo je da uzima ženske hormone koji sumu oduzimali snagu i muškost, prijeko potrebnu za taj surovi sport. Inače na Thauilandu je zabranjeno ženama da se bave tim sportom.
Danas je Nong Toom ( Parinaya Charoemphol ) žena, glumica koja živi u Bangkoku. Ostao je poznati ritual na ringu koji je kao kickboxer izvodio prije svake borbe najljepšeg tajlandskog borca u ringu!

Beautiful Boxer is a 2003 Thai biographical-drama-sports film by Singapore-based director Ekachai Uekrongtham. It tells the life story of Nong Thoom, a famous kathoey (male-to-female transgendered person), Muay Thai fighter, actress and model. She was portrayed by male kickboxer Asanee Suwan.



Based on the true story of Thailand's famed transgender kickboxer, Beautiful Boxer is a poignant action drama that punches straight into the heart and mind of a boy who fights like a man so he can become a woman.



Believing he's a girl trapped in a boy's body since childhood, Parinya Charoenphol (affectionately known as Nong Toom in Thailand) sets out to master the most masculine and lethal sport of Muay Thai (Thai boxing) to earn a living and to achieve his ultimate goal of total femininity. Touching, funny and packed with breathtaking Thai kickboxing sequences, Beautiful Boxer traces Nong Toom's childhood, teenage life as a traveling monk and grueling days in boxing camps. Directed and produced by Ekachai Uekrongtham, the film stars Asanee Suwan, a real-life kickboxing champ as Nong Toom. Kyoko Inoue, one of Japan's top female wrestlers plays herself in the film. She has fought with Nong Toom in real life back in 1988. That historical match was reenacted for the film in a dramatic sequence shot at Toyko Dome. Nearly all of Nong Toom's opponents in the film are also professional kickboxers in real life.

Beautiful Boxer has been officially selected for the Panorama Section of the 2004 Berlin International Film Festival. It’s the only Thai film in the 2004 Panorama.
He is now a she. In real life, Nong Toom's dream has come true after undergoing a sex-change operation in 1999. Now a model and actress based in Bangkok, Nong Toom can no longer fight in the ring. Women are not allowed in professional boxing rings for men in Thailand.

Born into a poor family of nomads, Nong Toom spent his childhood traveling around the country with his family before settling down in Chiangmai province in the Northern part of Thailand. Prior to his big match in Bangkok in February 1998, he'd won 20 out of 22 matches in many provinces. He's feared by his opponents for his trademark swooping kicks, flying elbows and stinging uppercuts. His deadly prowess in the ring made it hard for the public to understand his ambition of becoming a woman.

Undoubtedly one of Thailand's best known kickboxers, Nong Toom is admired by many for his courage and despised by others who accused him of tarnishing the masculine image of Thai kickboxing.
