Gefangen (2004) aka Locked Up

Gefangen (2004)
Director: Jörg Andreas
Writers: Jörg Andreas, Peter Oehl
Country: Germany
Genre: Drama, Crime, Adult
Language: German Year: 2004

Stars: Marcel Schlutt, Mike Sale, Ralph Steel, Andreas Bernhardt, Michael Busch, Fred Faurtin, Gil, Chris Holland, Erik Lenn, Marc Lindinger, Lorenz Michel, Daniel Mitic, David Parstein, Mike Power, Goran Rakonjac, Mats Riem, Ulrike Schirm, Pedro Sobisch, Henning von Berg

Mnogi pederi maštaju o tome kako ih siluju u zatvoru!
Film obiluje scenama nasilja, silovanja, muške erotike, a o psihi glavnih karaktera prosudite sami.

In Germany, twenty-something Dennis Tormann is serving a two-year prison sentence for credit card fraud. This term is his first ever behind bars. He is placed in one of the toughest cell blocks ruled by an inmate named Lutz, from who he tries to stay clear. Among other things, Lutz, supported by one of the guards named Muller, deals in drugs. Kevin Letarski, a young, slight inmate who is Lutz's whipping boy, befriends Dennis and tries to show him the ropes of prison life in their block. Although inexperienced with men, Dennis is attracted to Mike, a black American inmate in another cell block who is half way through his fifteen year sentence for murder. The attraction is mutual, and the two begin a relationship. Despite knowing that Muller, Lutz and his thugs do not like this relationship as it keeps Dennis out of their sight, Mike and Dennis, with Kevin's help, do whatever they can to spend time together while staying clear of Lutz's sadistic ways. Ultimately, Dennis has to decide ..

What kind of prison is this? There are voyeuristic gay guards (inspired by Genet's Un Chant D'Amour,) a punk who likes to be spit on and the warden entertain requests for lovers to room together! With plenty of sexual energy between the two leads, their romance develops through motherly visits, drug deals and a nasty prison rape scene. Locked Up is an enjoyably romantic and erotic debut non-adult film from Jörg Andreas

In x-rated version you can not see story with character and emotion like in R rated version! X-rated version is porn in German without subtitles, but do not bother as it is pure sex.

Salo (original title)

Director: Miko Jacinto
Writer: Miko Jacinto
Genre: Drama
Country: Philippines
Year: 2011
Duration: 95 min

Stars: Paolo Rivero, Kristoffer King and Anita Linda

Miko Jacinto’sSalo” (Share) is a surprising work. Unlike most pink films, Jacinto engages and dives into his narrative - frame after frame - with hardly a spoken word. In fact, most of the spoken lines are left hanging, i.e. there’s hardly an exchange of words. This eventually creates semblance of mood and nuances. “Salo” also benefits from Romy Suzara’s beautifully composed scenes, giving the impression that this isn’t your hurried, shoddy, one-take production.
But there is a problem where narrative details are concerned. Perla Bautista’s character, for example, bewilders. She’s the coquettish “tita” who “barks” loudly, spewing lines like: “Bumangon ka na. Masaya ang mundo. Naalala mo pa ba, dati sabay tayong nanlalalaki?” You aren’t sure this was meant to be spoken by an elderly matron. In another scene (where she gazes at the driver washing the car), she said: “Type ko siya. Matrona ba, magaling ding maghugas.” When told that Levi’s spoken for, she replied: “Kahit gawin mo pa akong kerida, ok lang!” And as if to seal the real identity – or sexual preference – of the character: “Nakadami ka na ba?” Though I understand that her character was meant to stir vitality to an otherwise dour story, her character is a tad too uncouth to be believable. You only have to see how matronly she dresses to feel this incongruence to her peculiar manner of speaking.

Frisk (1995)

Director: Todd Verow
Writers: Jim Dwyer, George LaVoo Genre: Drama
Country: USA Language: English
Duration: 88 min
Stars: Michael Gunther, Jaie Laplante, Craig Chester, Parker Posey, Alexis Arquette, James Lyons

Napaljeno gledajući jedan drugog kako drkamo kite on umoči svoju u čapu loze i ponudi mi. Nastavak znate.

FRISK-1996 Dir. Todd Verow (USA) by psRanger

frisk13When Frisk first screened as the closing night film at the 19th San Francisco International Lesbian and Gay Film Festival in 1996, Todd Verow’s first feature film was greeted with a furious reaction. According to Barry Walters of the San Francisco Examiner, “At least half of Castro Theater’s 1,500 sold-out seats were abandoned as filmgoers left seething with anger, some even screaming at the screen.” On the audio commentary for the new DVD, Verow explains that after first reading Dennis Cooper’s notorious novel of the same name, he threw it across the room, similarly infuriated. But the sexually graphic bloodlust depicted in the book lingered long enough in Verow’s head to convince him to adapt it to film.
The hostile response recalled that for William Friedkin’s Cruising (1980), in which gay s/m practices were depicted as perverse, pathological, and criminal. As the documentary adaptation of The Celluloid Closet (1995) shows, by the time of Cruising‘s release queer audiences were tired of pervasive stereotypes of queers as killers and hairdressers. Hollywood movies repeatedly reinforced heterosexuality at the expense of gay and lesbian characters, whose individual psychoses were related their “pathological” sexuality.
frisk8But time and DVD releases tend to heal wounds. Cruising is now a curious piece of queer camp, and Frisk hardly warrants the spanking it got in 1996. To put it into context, Frisk came out during the wave of ‘90s new queer cinema. According to B. Ruby Rich, these “were doing something new, renegotiating subjectivities, annexing whole genres, revising histories in their image.” Like Poison (1991), Swoon (1992), and The Living End (1992), Frisk does not pander to queer viewers’ demands for sexually and politically “appropriate” role models. Instead, it challenges stereotypes that conflate queerness with disorder and death.
Following a group of disaffected queer men involved, to various degrees, in s/m sexuality, the film is set mostly in San Francisco. Frisk unravels in flashbacks from the perspective of Dennis (Michael Gunther), establishing right away that he hungrily consumed a steady diet of gay porn as a teenager. The most memorable imagery he saw was “snuff” photographs, featuring what appeared to be a young dead man, wrapped in plastic.
frisk4Much later, Dennis finds a kindred s/m spirit in Julian (Jaie Laplante), who, in turn, meets Henry (Craig Chester) in the bathroom at a fetish party. Henry has just engaged with some rough trade, and his fingers and chest are bleeding from being rubbed with broken glass. Julian takes down Henry’s phone number and agrees to meet later for sex. When Julian and Dennis call on Henry for a threesome, Dennis realizes Henry is the same person who played dead in the porn shots he obsessed over in his youth.
As Julian is tiring of Dennis’ deepening sexual obsessions, he follows a new lover to Paris, leaving Dennis unfettered by a conventional boyfriend. In an attempt to satisfy his fantasies, Dennis rents German gay-for-pay porn star and hustler Uhrs (Michael Stock), then begins writing sexually charged letters to him. The only other person to whom Dennis writes is Julian, though Julian’s younger brother Kevin (Raoul O’Connell) spends more time poring over the descriptions of sexual violence than Julian does.
frisk2For a time, Dennis’ addiction to describing such acts in letters appears to prevent him from fulfilling his desire to kill someone: he spends more time detailing the poetics of s/m than he does actually performing such acts. That is, until he teams up with serial killer couple Ferguson (Parker Posey) and Pete (James Lyons). Dennis’ confidence is spurred on in their presence. The threesome picks up a junkie hustler (Alexis Arquette), with whom they all fool around. Dennis wants to fuck him without a condom, and the hustler is too preoccupied with getting high to “give a shit.” In an attempt to arouse Dennis further, the hustler screams, “You’re fucking my dead body!”
It’s not hard to imagine why Frisk might have upset queer audiences. The scene where Dennis fucks the hustler without a rubber, then helps to slash him to red ribbons can be heavy going. But is the knee-jerk reaction we might have to such images the result of political correctness being so inextricably linked to AIDS, as if the depiction of unsafe sex be blamed for furthering the spread of AIDS?
Films about killers are supposed to be disturbing. Is it less disturbing if the killer in question is heterosexual? As soon as he’s gay, alarm bells go off the world over, because the image appears to “equate” homosexuality with criminality and blood. Frisk demonstrates that blood and violence in the age of AIDS represent something more specific than some abstract “evil,” but instead, amoral horrors, like infection and disease, along with perversion and madness.
downloadDennis narrates, “The detours around AIDS weren’t set up yet. A lot of guys my age were testing positive: sick, dead.” Frisk reveals that the cinematic imagery around AIDS also hadn’t yet been fully set up. And for that reason, the film invokes the crisis without ever really being a movie about AIDS. Unlike Christopher Ashley’s film Jeffrey (1995), Frisk never grants us easy answers as to how sexual practices—especially those fetishizing death—might be modified to eliminate risk. We never even know if any of the characters in Frisk are HIV positive.
The hostility directed at Frisk suggests that gay audiences, at least in 1996, expected gay filmmakers to make “safe” gay films. If this were true, depictions of s/m would become off-limits, because the performance of risk is central to such practices. By invoking the specter of AIDS in relation to s/m, Frisk might still be an uncomfortable experience for some viewers. But it shouldn’t be dismissed simply because of audience expectations, as these have surely changed since 1996. In retrospect, it is easier to acknowledge that the terms are more complicated than “negative” and “positive” portrayals, and that cinematic merit cannot be judged through the blind spots of political correctness.

Wrecked (I) (2009)

ccbWrecked (I) (2009)

Directors: Bernard Shumanski, Harry Shumanski
Writers: Harry Shumanski, Bernard Shumanski
Genre: Drama
Country: USA
Language: English Year: 2009 Duration: 73 min

Stars: Forth Richards, Benji Crisnis and Theo Montgomery

WreckedRyan (Forth Richards, I think, since much of the cast may be working under pseudonym) is a young wannabe actor. He has landed his first part in a play, but his happiness is short-lived as former boyfriend Daniel (Benji Crisnis, I think) shows up. Daniel is a drug addict, but Ryan takes him in (again) anyway, hoping to change him since he won't change himself. Daniel immediately goes back to his old habits, including introducing Taylor (no idea who played him) into the relationship. Ryan's life begins to spiral downward, and the film ends with a scene you could predict before you even popped the disc in the DVD player.
The three leads get nude, often. The Shumanski brothers wallow in Ryan's filthy world; you can almost smell the stale cigarette butts and warm wine in his squalid little house. However, the Shumanskis let their willing cast down. Some of the scenes are obviously improvised, and watching the young cast try to smoke and talk like adults before shedding their underwear is embarrassing to sit through. I began to mistake Ryan's constant naivete for mild mental retardation as Daniel goes through his drug addict and casual sex routine and elicits only tsk-ing and rolled eyes. The direction is sloppy (you can spot a cameraman in a mirror in one scene, and dates on cell phones never jibe), the editing is fair, and the music makes no impression whatsoever. The Shumanskis pad the film with unnecessary shots of the dudes waking up, getting their bearings, and dressing.

wrecked-fi

Richards plays Ryan like a drag queen channeling Bette Davis. He smokes too much, and swirls his hands, but shows no real emotion beyond mild contempt. I didn't care about him at all. Ryan demands Daniel get a job, yet we never see what Ryan does for a living. Crisnis is bland, never offering any reason why Ryan would fall for Daniel over and over again, despite getting hurt every time.
The only scenes that almost work are Ryan's play rehearsals. The play, as presented to the viewer, is a disaster. The director obviously wants to take Ryan to bed, his chain smoking assistant hates the world, and one of his co-stars is one of those Brando wannabes who must stretch and do annoying preparation for this piece of garbage he is "starring" in. Trust me, I have a theater background, and a lot of this is dead-on. Plus, these scenes provide a break from all the cocaine snorting and gay sex.
"Wrecked" joins the sad list of sexually explicit films that fail because of the script and direction, and not the sex. Move over, "9 Songs," "Shortbus," and almost everything Larry Clark has ever done, "Wrecked" and its truth-in-advertising title is here.

( L.A. Outfest, Málaga International Week of Fantastic Cinema, Namur International Festival of French-Speaking Film, Sitges - Catalonian International Film Festival )

Story of love and death, with some American thriller sparkles and the flavor of Ozon, "Amants criminels" is trip in a dark universe, with strange cages and shadows of fears.

In same aspects, it is a new adaptation of "Dangerous Liaisons". Also, it is a adaptations of brothers Grimm tales. But important are not the images, rabbits or forest man , the murder or the rats. It is only a room of Francois Ozon universe and relevant is the desire of director to discover the limits of a situation. Not the ways but the purpose.

The evil girl for the other is basic object, the homoerotic scenes, the strange land, the race different, the games and the end, the cries and forms of affection are pieces of an interesting puzzle in which the purpose may be the catharsis.

A cruel beautiful film. Cold, aggressive, nostalgic, sad and strange. A film about the ways of escape. And about their fragile substance.

This movie is not gay movie, but some homoerotic scene in François Ozon's way can be interesting!

2 Minutes Later (2007)

"2 Minutes Later" is a crime-fighting/comedy film with some flesh and sex (not excessive, but certainly more than necessary). It tried to equal the sex & violence quotient seen in similar 'straight' films. This film's director, who was present the night I attended, got on stage before the film screened, and said that his film was meant just as fun entertainment; nothing more, nothing less. -- and to the person who accompanied me to this screening, that's what it was. To me it was just a gay reworking of many straight suspense films, with a major plot element (spoiler) borrowed from "Blow-Up." It had a fair amount of tepid comedy added into the mix, justifying the director's statement that it could be called 'light entertainment.'

Probably to the chagrin of the filmmaker present (and to the management of the fabulous Tampa Theatre, a splendidly renovated 'atmostpheric,' built in 1926) the film was shown through the wrong lens. What I mean is, it appears to have been a film that may have been produced with an aspect ratio of 1:1.85, but it was shown thru' a 1:1.33 lens. Everyone was just a bit too thin, too tall, --and all the cars were a foot, or so, more compact. I tried to ignore this technical problem (which wasn't easy) and see the film the way it's producer intended me to. It had it's fun moments, some suspense, and I almost enjoyed it, until "The End" credit came on-screen with a question mark (?) added after a few seconds, a la "The Blob."

The leading lady, who was also present in the theater that night --and accompanied the filmmaker on stage before the curtain went up, was the best actor in this film. As improbable as her character was, her lines were better than those of the leading man, --who was likely chosen for his shy boy-next-door 'look' rather than for any acting ability. I'm not knocking him, nor the filmmaker, nor anyone else associated with this production. It was obvious that the budget wasn't big, but neither was the thought put into this. Better films have been made on smaller budgets.

And it seemed to me that it borrowed an awful lot of bits and pieces from many other films, --besides the obvious big 'bit' borrowed from "Blow-Up."

Overall, a mediocre effort. I rated it 5.

Shiner (2004)

Shiner (2004)

Takvi parovi u suštini imaju i najstabilnije veze.
Kada dolazi do kraha?

Sado-mazohizam nije nikakva nova pojava, a nije ni bolest kako mnogi tumače.

I can’t remember the last time a direct-to DVD film had as much impact on me as “Shiner.” This is one film about which you can assuredly use the overused adjective “controversial.” Either a Godard-like meditation on the inherent violence of late-capitalist America or beat-off material for “Fight Club” buffs, “Shiner” pulls no punches — or, rather, does nothing but pull punches — in its depiction of a claustrophobic group of Angelenos.

Most people will probably be put off by the relentless violence. But if you can stick it out, you will find yourself asking some Big Picture questions: Why did Bush invade Iraq? Why did al Quaida destroy the World Trade Center? Why do Palestinian teenagers blow themselves up? Why did the Hutus randomly slaughter Tutsis in Rwanda?

Maybe it’s simply because they can. Maybe we’re just hard-wired to do violence upon each other — and ourselves.

Such, anyway, is the worldview presented by director Christian Calson. The two ne’er-do-wells at the center of the action (in every sense) are lovers in everything but fact. They beat each other, force each other into “homo” situations and, in their spare time, gay bash pick-ups. Talk about your anti-heroes!

We also meet a punk boxer, his gay stalker and a straight couple that give new meaning to the song “Love Is a Battlefield.” It helps considerably that the cast is uniformly attractive, in refreshingly ordinary-looking ways. The use of video makes the film look like porn — all the more disconcerting, considering the incessant bloodletting.

Don’t be surprised if Calson joins Gus Van Sant, Ang Lee, Todd Haynes and Todd Solendz in going on to the Hollywood big-time, based on this profoundly disturbing exploration of the darkest side of human nature.

In recent years, gay anthologies have become a subcategory of their own. The latest entry, “Men’s Mix,” lives up to its name.

The seven shorts range from a silent meditation on the life of an Argentinean 10-peso note to a traditional short-form documentary about an old-time barber shop in San Francisco to an all-too ironic look at 1950s sexual repression.

“Gaydar” has a great premise — that a device can detect who’s gay or not. But it devolves into low-brow sitcom situations, too broadly played. “Burl’s” and “Safe Journey” are sensitive explorations into sexuality in hostile cultures.

By far the most successful short is “Touched.” A 53-year-old man leaves his female dinner companion and heads to a gay bar. There he meets a stunning young man who expresses interest. The two go home with some very unexpected consequences.

In the space of only a few minutes, this two-hander manages to explore the issues of aging, urban anomie and existential dread in a way that many more pretentious full-length films never achieve. Philadelphia first-timer Mike Lemon turns in a stunning debut

Two feature films — both reviewed favorably by myself in these pages — also make their debuts. Both are must-sees if you missed them the first time around.

“Latter Days” contains some clichéd moments and too-pat coincidences. But if you can watch the ending without a tear welling up, you’re stronger than I am. A passionate performance by Steve Sandvoss, who plays a conflicted Mormon, anchors the film, as does a compassionate cameo by screen legend Jacqueline Bisset. For those who can’t get enough, Centaur has released the soundtrack on CD (www.centaurmusic.com; 888-9-CENTAUR).

“Bulgarian Lovers” is another little gem from Spain, which has assumed pride of place as the current center of gay cinema. (Who’da thunk it?) Veteran gay director Ely de la Iglesia uses the one-sided relationship between a straight Bulgarian hustler and his mark, an average-Joe Spaniard, as a metaphor for the post-Communist integration of Eastern European countries into the European Union.

This film entertains on so many levels — the personal, political, sexual and dramatic — that you need to see it at least twice to absorb its many meanings. Superior performances all around and a gimlet eye aimed with laser-beam intensity on this crazy thing we call love keeps the mind engaged even as your heart is breaking.

Jeffrey (1995)

Jeffrey (1995)

Ni danas nije mnogo bolje situacija, mada nemam potrebe koliko ranije!

New Yorker Jeffrey loves sex, but he's terrified of AIDS, so he decides to beome celibate. Sex was meant to be fun not fatal. Of course it's inevitable he then meets Mr. Right in the hunky shape of Steve.

Dealing with sex and death through humour often works very effectively, but not with a film that doesn't balance light and dark and never hits its mark. It's very episodic and lacks narrative drive pulling the bits together. The movie's theatrical origins show, with musical numbers and camera asides that don't work on the small screen. I was a bit uncomfortable with stereotypical characters and behaviour.

The main weakness though is lack of chemistry between Jeffrey and Steve, a big disadvantage for a triumph of love story. The actor playing Jeffrey seems awkward in his role, failing to convince me.

It's not all bad. Patrick Stewart has fun with Sterling the camp decorator, and Sigourney Weaver does a turn as a motivational speaker.

Daddy and the Muscle Academy: A Documentary on the Art, Life, and Times of Tom of Finland (Finland) (complete title)

The film gives voice to the life and creative impulse of the gay erotic artist known across the gay world as 'Tom of Finland'. Essentially an interview documentary with some very brief 'enactments' inspired by Tom's artwork, this is a long way from fetish pornography but is thought-provoking nonetheless.

Tom describes his early life in the Finnish army, in mundane jobs and, matter-of-factly, how he became inspired to put onto paper his exagerrated masculine fantasies of men in leather, uniforms and workwear.

Most of the interview is shot in the stillness of Tom's apartment/studio, with the film broken into segments centering on themes of his work: depiction of black men and women, technique, use of models and leather as his muse: "I put on a special outfit", he explains, "if I need to be inspired".

The subject is fascinating and likeable, even if the film-making is a little dry in tone. When it comes to the extremely short 'enactment' sessions, featuring shadowy, muscular figures in leather and SM play, there is none of the boldness and exuberance that the drawings, in comparison convey, even as static images.

Putting its arthouse stylistic shortcomings aside, the film is a precious document of this influential artist who died a few years after it was made. The brief commentaries from friend and critics point out just how deeply Tom's fantasies have become the primers for the post-war emergent gay subcultures of Leather/SM, with all their knock-on influence on wider cultural consciousness. While outsiders may not relate to Tom's proclivities, they will be moved by his integrity and skill in realising his fantasies.

Alongside Tove Jansson, the creator of the the Moomin characters, Tom of Finland is the most internationally renowned Finnish graphic artist, but in Finland remained mostly unknown outside the gay subculture during his life.

The exhibitions organised after his death gave him wider audience. Because his art dealt with erotic and even pronographic subject material, Tom did not receive recognition for his work from the Finnish society during his career. As an artist, it is fair to say that Tom of Finland’s work was labelled pronographic much in the same way as Andy Warhol’s work was labelled commercial.

Tom himself was very plain about his work. "Yes, I consider my work pornography. Pornography means to stimulate peoples' sexual feelings, and I'm always very aware of that. My motive is lower than art."

Still Tom’s influence to the gay subculture and eventually to the mainstream culture through the popular adoption of SM and fetish imagery, should not be underestimated.
Even more important than that, Tom’s life’s work offered a new strong gay identity and a positive role model for growing gay men - his characters were not effeminate gigglers or sad weaklins but muscular, butch and full of humour and happiness.

Tom of Finland's real name was Touko Laaksonen. He was born on 8 May 1920, on the south coast of Finland. Tom died in November 7th, 1991.

This stranger will ultimately aid in each man materializing his deepest, most intimate desires: The soldier in love with his commanding officer; the photographer smitten by his young model; the young men making love for the first time in the ocean. Sirocco climaxes in a sensual finale set in the depths of a raging sea. Director Steve Bulfield has included additional explicit footage (previously unseen) to this director's cut.

Seven men, trapped in a desert of their own passions, are brought together by a mysterious and sensual "desert man". Erotically charged and truly sensual, Sirocco brings together spectacular men in an epic story of scorching passions.
