You & I (2014)

You & I (2014)

Director: Nils Bökamp
Writer: Nils Bökamp
Genre: Drama
Country: Germany
Language: German, English, Polish
Duration: 79 min
Year:2014

Stars: George Taylor, Eric Klotzsch, Michal Grabowski

This whole post-gay thing is super confusing. What do we do now that being gay isn’t the be all and end all?
What do we do now that we are allowed to have straight male friends and be affectionate with them?
What’s more, where is all the angsty queer drama going to come from?Take this case study: good-looking German feature You & I.
The “I” here is hot German photographer, Jonas (Eric Klotzsch); sexuality straight. The “You” is hotter English, German-speaking, laughter loving, nudity preferring, ex-housemate, Philip (George Taylor); sexuality gay. The two reunite in Jonas’ Mercedes campervan for a leisurely road trip through the rolling hills of the Uckermark.
Sounds like every second queer film, no?
Throw it in between Harvest (MQFF 2012) and Summer Storm (MQFF 2005); it’s even got the obligatory shirtless pontoon sunbathing scene. There is one small issue though. Sexual tension: nil. Dramatic tension: nil.

Turns out well-adjusted cross-sexuality friendships don’t make for edge of your seat cinema. Yet, You & I isn’t so easily dismissed.
The film’s first act may be a little limp but director Nils Bökamp imbues the young men’s reconnection with enough energy to maintain attention.

Klotzsch and Taylor give engaging performances, cut through with the kind of faux-vérité freshness that warrants the low-key narrative flow. Taylor’s smile has a cheekiness reminiscent of Michael Fassbender, and Bökamp’s laissez faire direction gives him space to flash it openly and often. And that’s not all that’s flashed.
Actually, the nudity counter is off the chart – they’re super comfortable with each other, y’know. All this, and it has to be said, the luscious scenery is extremely well treated by cinematographer, Alexander Fuchs. The point being, You & I is far from a difficult watch.
Then… enter Boris (Michal Grabowski)… we’ll call him the “&”.
Hot, Polish, straggly haired, backpackerly, homophobic; sexuality unlabelled. He brings the tension with him, dramatic and sexual. Well, to a point.

Bökamp’s approach to the material remains impressionistic but the insertion of Boris’ bristling Eastern European values brings a spark that sets the slow burn to a smoulder. It turns out just a hint of traditional pre-post-gay angst is enough to tip this new frontier bro-triangle into strangely endearing territory. Endearing, affecting and gently pulsing with erratic chemistry.
You & I may be a gear change for some but will reward those willing to take it down a notch and embrace its ambiguity. It’s a film riding the zeitgeist (it’s German, it fits) and may well provide some invaluable pointers in this brave new world of gay straight relations: Turn your bromance into romance… or something like that.

Uglavnom nađu izgovore zbog posla, škole i li nešto drugo I jednostavno odu.

Short after facing the failure of an attempt to rescue a drowning man, Donato meets Konrad, friend of the victim. Motivated by the circumstances, Donato decides to begin a new life in Berlin, but pieces of his past are coming after him.

Beautiful, yet dull
20 May 2014 | by Not Jim (Brasil) – IMDB
Futuro Beach (2014)The thing that struck me the most about this movie is how beautiful it is, and I mean literally, aesthetically. Not only is the scenery gorgeous, but also its camera work is outstanding: Praia do Futuro's shots are absolutely amazing, most scenes could be made into pictures to be hung on the walls of an art gallery - there could probably be a whole exposition just made with screenshots of this movie.
The film's appeal, however, doesn't go much beyond that. Its plot had potential, the trailer made it seem like it would be intense and deeply emotional, yet the whole story is quite dull, with some unclear or poorly explained parts and underdeveloped dialogue. The characters don't lack depth per se, but their personalities were rather shallowly explored, perhaps hindered by the lack of vocal expression or by the stumbling plot.

Futuro Beach (2014)Contrarily to what a review I read (in another website) suggested, I did not feel like this movie was too cliché-ridden, and the unoriginal moves were fairly understandable, as they could be justified by either the situation in which they were inserted or the characters' psyche. Yet, I feel the innovative elements were obscured by the overall dephtlessness of the whole production and great ideas and quotes were lost in senselessness and barely-existent dialogue.

This is definitely not a bad movie, it was just not enough to touch or affect me in any way.

173902880201311031729393346951306245_000Silent Youth is a film for misfits, dreamers and lovers. It's the classic story of a coming out, but it focuses on the moments one tends to quickly forget: the first approach, the creaking of the chair while sitting across from each other, not knowing what to say. And it's about the silence.
The film tells of the encounter and slow approximation of two young men in Berlin. Marlo, who claims to be visiting his girlfriend, wonders the streets of Berlin where he meets Kirill. He begins to follow him, which seems to impress Kirill. A strange relationship begins to develop between the two of them. The more Kirill exposes about himself, the more confusing it gets for Marlo. They float next to one another, not knowing what the next step could be. Is there really someone to talk to in this strange world? Someone who is just as confused? And isn't it inevitably for this person to be just as crazy? Silent Youth is a film about feeling locked into yourself, but most of all it is a film about love.

Julian #1 - gay web series
by queerblickTV

Germany - Julian is a 16-years-old boy like any other. He goes to school, has a never ending problem with his parents and dates a girl. But one day, he is attracted by somebody else – a boy. This feeling leads to a lot of confusion in Julian's mind and certain troubles with friends and family. What does is it mean to be gay or bisexual?  How does it feel to kiss somebody of the same gender? Will my parents and friends accept me? These are the typical question that queer teenagers have. The web series "Julian" is based on it.
julian_haut_von_zu_hause_ab

"This series is an excellent work that empowers teenagers during their coming-out. It gives them the chance to identify with the main characters as a role-model. This is extremely important - especially to those that don't know any queer to look up to as an idol", says Falk Steinborn, the founder of the organisation queerblick from Germany. It tries to empower young LGBT through media. His volunteers and him have subtitled the series into English. Originally it was produces by a team of young queers from the LGBT youth center anyway in Cologne (Germany). Among them were some up-and-coming filmmakers that had the idea for the series and produced it with other attendees of the youth center on super low budget. "We are very happy that the LGBT youth center 'anyway' wanted to cooperate with us in order to spread the message of the series world wide", says Steinborn. The chances for that are not too bad. The YouTube channel of queerblick counts more than 400.000 views every month and has more than 13.000 subscribers. The first episode of the series can be watched now. Further eight episodes and one series finale in the format of a 17-minutes short film will follow week by week.

3Još jedna priča o ljubavi geja sa oženjenom muškarcem. U ovom njemačkom filmu obadvojica rade u policiji.

German director Stephan Lacant employs gorgeous cinematography and well-drawn characters to craft this thoughtful and incredibly sexy meditation on bisexuality and adulterous temptation. Marc (Hanno Koffler) has a great family, a loving and supportive girlfriend with a bun in the oven, and a promising career lined up as a policeman.
4Everything seems to be on the right track... until he meets Kay (Max Riemelt) during his police academy training. A sexy, young blonde officer with a devil-may-care attitude and a penchant for drug use, Marc finds Kay intriguing. The two begin jogging together in the woods. Their relationship begins innocently until Kay starts coming on to Marc aggressively. Kay kisses him and slides his hand down Marc's pants without asking for permission, but it's not entirely unwelcome.
6As time goes by, Marc becomes more and more infatuated with his mysterious new admirer, and the two start having an intense secret affair. Pretty soon, though, Marc begins neglecting his pregnant girlfriend. He begins to feel crushed under the pressure of living a double life. His life is in free fall and Marc realizes that, try as he may, he can't make everyone happy - least of all, himself. Lead actors Koffler and Riemelt are masters at creating sexual tension. The early scenes between Marc and Kay have an almost palpable intensity - and their sex scenes are realistically cautious and excitedly awkward. If you're in the market for a sexy film about a naughty gay relationship, Free Fall won't let you down. (German with English subtitles)

Mnogi pederi maštaju o tome kako ih siluju u zatvoru!
Film obiluje scenama nasilja, silovanja, muške erotike, a o psihi glavnih karaktera prosudite sami.

In Germany, twenty-something Dennis Tormann is serving a two-year prison sentence for credit card fraud. This term is his first ever behind bars. He is placed in one of the toughest cell blocks ruled by an inmate named Lutz, from who he tries to stay clear. Among other things, Lutz, supported by one of the guards named Muller, deals in drugs. Kevin Letarski, a young, slight inmate who is Lutz's whipping boy, befriends Dennis and tries to show him the ropes of prison life in their block. Although inexperienced with men, Dennis is attracted to Mike, a black American inmate in another cell block who is half way through his fifteen year sentence for murder. The attraction is mutual, and the two begin a relationship. Despite knowing that Muller, Lutz and his thugs do not like this relationship as it keeps Dennis out of their sight, Mike and Dennis, with Kevin's help, do whatever they can to spend time together while staying clear of Lutz's sadistic ways. Ultimately, Dennis has to decide ..

What kind of prison is this? There are voyeuristic gay guards (inspired by Genet's Un Chant D'Amour,) a punk who likes to be spit on and the warden entertain requests for lovers to room together! With plenty of sexual energy between the two leads, their romance develops through motherly visits, drug deals and a nasty prison rape scene. Locked Up is an enjoyably romantic and erotic debut non-adult film from Jörg Andreas

In x-rated version you can not see story with character and emotion like in R rated version! X-rated version is porn in German without subtitles, but do not bother as it is pure sex.

Poslije tog iskustva često smo drkali zajedno.

Tom, 16, lives in a small town in Bavaria and is about to admit his homosexuality to society. Being mobbed and threatened in school and after some exiting experiences he overcomes his own barriers and makes his dream come true: getting into contact with others. The Story tells us from Tom, he is gay, he is chatting with other gay boys over the internet, but he would never admit it in front of others. By coincident he finds out, that Nikias - one of the cool guys in school, who mob Tom - likes to have sexual contact with boys as well. To be more accurate: Tom finds Nikias having sex with another guy on a couch. And on top of that, there is this very cute boy from the candy shop...

6 January 2007 | by gradyharp (United States) – IMDB

tumblr_m5jjrmZyIe1r9xykx'Saudade - Sehnsucht' (THE LONGING) is a film by writer/director Jürgen Brüning who seems to have taken a vacation from Germany to Brazil with some friends and decided to make a movie as a means of entertainment. This film is less about characters and story development than it is about Brazilian beaches, snorkeling, fish butchering, second-rate pop music, and food.
Ostensibly we find three friends who've had a rock band in Germany on vacation in Brazil: Cyrus (Tarik Qazi) is interested in finding his Brazilian mother; Tim (Daniel Bätscher) remains determined to explore a new music sound; Erik (eye candy hunk Hendrik Scheider) wants to find love. The three finance their excursion by making daily film clips of body contact to use on the internet dating business. Their housekeepers Maria (Maria Lucia da Silva Ludwig) and Angela (Marilza da Cruz Pinto Gregiao) feed their interests as well as their appetites. Most of their time is spent in clubs and at the beaches, pursuing little but opportunism. Erik has a tryst on the sand with a Brazilian man one night that ends in a death that sours his desire. When another attractive Brazilian lad Miguel (Aldri Anunciaçao) catches Erik's eye the two begin a struggle for a relationship, but Erik's previous encounter colors his ability to find happiness.

saudade-fi

The actors are all attractive and given the fact that they have little to do but look alluring manage to make the film tolerable. But in the end the movie feels too self indulgent to satisfy any audience member. It is a piece of fluff disguised as a soap opera. Grady Harp

Battleship Pretension
2Often when a film tells a tale from the point of view of a persecuted or minority (or both) point of view, it falls into a couple of traps. The first is being more concerned with appealing to its directly targeted audience than with making a good film. For example, this is why Tyler Perry’s films are so beloved by the people at whom they’re aimed and by almost no one else. The second, much trickier trap, is becoming consumed by the socio-political bedrock of its premise and becoming an “issue” film more than anything else. This is slippery territory because the film is usually in some way worthwhile on the strength of its subject alone but the manner in which the message is delivered can make all the difference. Sabine Bernardi’s Romeos keeps its wits and makes smart choices at most turns. It is an issue film secondarily. That its lesson takes a back seat to the characters and their story makes it all the more powerful.

6Romeos tells the story of Lukas, a young German man who has relocated to the city of Cologne as a part of some German civil service thing that I didn’t fully understand but which isn’t the point anyway. There he meets and becomes infatuated with a man named Fabio (Maximilian Befort) and the two begin a tumultuous and often very passionate relationship. The hitch comes when Fabio realizes what the film has clued us in to since the beginning. Namely, the fact that Lukas was once called Miriam and is a female to male (FTM) transgendered man.

Rick Okon plays Lukas and he is Bernardi’s biggest asset, despite her already impressive talents. Though convincingly a man (because he is), he has just enough softness to his features to allow belief that he was born a woman. Given that this look would have to be a necessity, it is a terrific stroke of luck for Bernardi and for the viewer that Okon also turns out to be such a skilled actor. The fact that he is both internally and externally uncomfortable almost all the time is relayed by him in ways that are never overt but also impossible to miss. The way he sits, the way he moves and the way he talks are all symptoms of his desire not to be noticed most of the time.

4Where Romeos really stakes its claim of individuality is when it decides, rightly, to explore Lukas’ flaws. It doesn’t do so periodically or directly. Instead, the unlikable aspects of him are a constant undercurrent that occasionally bubbles over. The film’s chief offering about the nature of someone like Lukas is to observe that feeling alone in the world, even when that feeling is justified, can turn a person into a narcissist. Those who do care about Lukas, such as his friend Ine (Liv Lisa Fries), are not involved in a mutually beneficial relationship. Since Lukas perceives his problems to be bigger than Ine’s, he gives no thought to her more mundane yet important personal struggles. Instead, he is constantly asking to be the subject of the conversation. Ine’s realization of this and subsequent backlash provide some of the film’s central conflicts. Lukas behaving this way and still remaining a sympathetic character is to the credit of both Okon the screenplay (also by Bernardi).

8Stylistically, Bernardi employs a general naturalism that is not gritty or hard-bitten but is instead loose. It captures the feeling of being out of school, flush with freedom but still too young to have many responsibilities. These people have their lives before them and they are simultaneously exhilarated and terrified by that. It’s only when the film attempts more lush, cinematic gestures that it tips its hand. For instance, a scene wherein Lukas is watching a transvestite at karaoke and the lighting changes theatrically and we focus in visually and aurally on the singer does not contain the skill or commitment to make such a sequence work. It instead feels amateurish, borrowed from better films like David Lynch’s Mulholland Dr.

Lukas’ story and the stories of transgendered people all over the world are worth your attention. Theirs is a minority class that is marginalized even by the minority class of which it is a subset. For that reason alone, Romeos is worth watching. Yet it’s also worth watching for the simple but immeasurable reason that it is a good film. That’s about the best thing one can say for it.
