Love in the Time of Civil War (L’amour au temps de la guerre civile) tells the story of the fairly grubby and unglamorous life of Alex (played by Alexandre Landry) – a young gay guy living in Montreal.
Directed by Quebec filmmaker Rodrigue Jean, this is a movie that celebrates the gritty realism of everyday life in a big city where people do whatever they have to do in order to get by.

Landry is convincing as the confused and directionless young, gay guy who lurches from one drug-fuelled encounter to the next. However it’s hard to feel much sympathy for any of the characters – they’re a fairly unlikeable lot.

This is a story that won’t give you many laughs – it is a bleak insight into a world that you don’t really want to be part of. It does however shine a light into the spiral of despair that drug addiction can create.

Observational film-making with a message.

Webserija iz radionice LOGO tv kuće, a koji je producirao Jimmy Lee u saradnji sa Tourisme Montréal.  
Serija ima priču koja je večini nas poznata, ali uvijek je nekako drugačija.
Stéphane (Francis Ducharme), zgodan i uspješan arhitekta iz Montreala preko interneta upoznaje  zgodnjikavog i lepršavog momka iz New Yorka po imenu Hugh (Matthew Ludwinski).
Nakon svadje sa svojim ex momkom (Matt) impulsivno poziva Hugha da ga posjeti u Montreal.
Nekoliko dana kasnije potpuno neočekivano dobija poruku od Hugha da je stigao u njegov grad.
Stéphane  koji je tek izašao iz veze potrudi se da bude dobar domaćin.

Seriju je lako odgledati jer ima 6 kratkih epizoda koje sve zajedno traju oko 25 minuta.
Mene je podsjetilo na jednog momka kojeg sam upoznao preko interneta. Dosta dugo smo se dopisivali i na kraju odlučimo da se upoznamo. Da ne bi bilo ni kod mene ni kod njega našli smo se na Paliću kod Subotice i nakon toga otišli u Segedin gdje smo proveli nezaboravan vikend. Išli po restoranima, šetali p gradu, noćnim klubovima, seksali se do iznemoglosti u iznajmljenom apartmanu, pričali o sebi i onome šta volimo, pa čak i o stvarima koje ljudi obično zadrže za sebe.
Nakon toga je došao dan kada se moramo razdvojiti i vratiti se svojim ranijim životima.

Ostane tako neka gorčina sa gomilom pitanja na koje nemamo odgovore, ali i sjećanje na tamo nekog za koga definitivno možemo reći da je ona srodna duša koju nismo mogli zadržati za sebe.

Created by Logo and producer Jimmy Lee in partnership with Tourisme Montréal, the six-part series takes place over a weekend in the life of Montreal native Stéphane, (actor Francis Ducharme). He’s a handsome young architect with a bright career and a rich social life, although he hasn’t quite gotten over his ex, Matt (Nico Racicot). But things are looking up. He’s met a sexy New Yorker named Hugh (Matthew Ludwinski) online and Hugh is coming to Montreal for an unexpected weekend visit.

You might recognize Ludwinski as the star of Going Down in La-La Land. The adorable French Canadian Ducharme may be less well known to TheBacklot readers, but trust us, he’s definitely worth googling!

One of the aims of this project is to promote travel to Montreal, and it’s true the gorgeous city figures prominently in the web series. But we don’t think that gets in the way of a beautifully shot, intimate story of two gay men tentatively negotiating the beginning of a relationship. Check out the first two episodes below. Seksualna sklonost prema starim osobama je sama po sebi izopačenost kao što se tretira i pedofilija. Ukoliko je seksualni čin izvršen prema nemoćnoj osobi, na silu i bez slobodne volje i rasuđivanja stare osobe, podliježe krivičnom zakonu i kao takvo se tretira kao kriminalni čin.

Naprosto sam osjetio potrbu da napišem ovo jer se u javnosti gerontofilija rijetko spominje.
Iako nisam nešto mnogo upućen u sve to mislim da treba praviti razliku između starije osobe koja može svjesno da donosi odluke u vezi dobrovoljnog stupanja u seksualni odnos i osobe koja to nije u stanju.
Najstrašniji zločin je zloupotrijebiti staru osobu i potrebno je ljude koje to rade sankcionisati izuzetno strogo.

Medjutim u ovom filmu se ne radi o tome iako sam naziv aludira na zločin. 

Lake je neobičan mladić, izgledom mlad, no stare duše, koji otkriva svoju neobičnu fiksaciju na starije osobe. Shvaćajući da će i sam jednog dana, ako sudbina dopusti, biti starac, Lake postaje fasciniran starijim muškarcima. Njihovu dob doživljava kao nešto prelijepo i razmišlja kako su i ti muškarci jednom bili mladi, poletni i privlačni kao što je on sada. Iako Lake ima djevojku svojih godina, Desiree, ponekad se pita je li njegova fiksacija na starije muškarce neprirodna i nezdrava – možda čak i seksualna. Tijekom ljeta započinje raditi kao ispomoć u staračkom domu te dolazi do otkrića da starije osobe smještene u domu bivaju drogirane lijekovima kako bi bile u katatoničnom stanju. U cijelom procesu otkrivanja istine sprijateljuje se s gospodinom Peabodyjem, koji očigledno još uvijek ima snage u sebi. Počinju graditi duboku povezanost. Film me je podsjetio na jednog momka kojeg sam upoznao prije nekih pola godina. Izgledom plijeni pažnju ljudi, izuzetno je šramanran i zgodan. Iako za sebe kaže da je više str8 nego bi, uočljivo je da mu se jako dopadaju stari ljudi.
Kako se aktivno bavi sportom izgleda kao momak sa naslovnih strana časopisa i kao takav sam siguran da bi bio sjajan fotomodel.
Omiljen u mjestu u kojem živi, dečko koji je osvojio i slomio mnoga ženska srca, dobar učenik u školi, uzoran prijatelj i dobar momak su opisi koji ga krase kada se on pominje.
Jednom prilikom je preko nednog dateing sajta upoznao čovjeka koji ima 65 godina. Kako živi u drugom mjestu, momak o kojem pričam je pobjegao od kuće i otišao kod njega. Zatekao je starog čovjeka koji već 30 godina živi sa partnerom. 

Dvoje iživljenih staraca kada su vidjeli kako im se nudi lijep i izuzetno zgodan momak, odluče da ga udome kod njih. Raspaljeni u seksualnom smisli koristili su ga kao igračku, a svoje bahanalije su dopunjavali nevjerovatnom količinom alkohola. Naravno i momak se napijao svakodnevno sve dok nije došao u stanje da ne razaznaje realnost i pri svemu tome se zaljubio u jednog od njih. Stari u kojeg se momak bio zaljubio nije krio da mu ljubav takvog momka hrani taštinu i čini ga srećnim u njegovom trećem dobu. 

Vremenom  je momak sve više pravio probleme kada se napije te su ga jednog dana dvojica staraca izbacili iz kuće.
Momak se vratio u svoje mjesto , ali više nije bio isti. Napijao se do iznemoglosti te mu je sposobnost rasuđivanja toliko poremećena da je potrebna liječnička pomoć. Njegovu opsesivnu ljubav prema starcu nije više bio u stanju da krije ni u porodici niti među prijateljima.
Roditelji nisu na vrijeme uvidjeli u kakvom im je stanju sin jer se ovaj bavio i dalje sportom i svojim izgledom ničim nije odavao da je bolestan.
Kako će se završiti njegova sudbina ne znam, ali slutim da neće na dobro sve to izaći.

Lake is an unusual boy: he is a young man with an old soul who discovers he has an odd fixation on the elderly. Realizing that some day, if fate allows, he will be one himself, he is particularly fascinated by old men. He imagines their age to be a beautiful thing and recognizes how these men were once young and vibrant and attractive, as he is now. Although Lake has a girlfriend his own age, named Desiree, he wonders sometimes if his fixation on old men is unnatural and unhealthy - perhaps even sexual. When his mother, who is a nurse, takes on a management job at an old folks home, Lake jumps at her offer of a summer job as an orderly there. Gradually, Lake comes to discover that the old people in the institution are being given psychotropic drugs to keep them in a catatonic state. Lake befriends one old man in particular, Mr. Peabody, who still seems to have some fight left in him.

They begin to form a strong bond. Mr. Peabody charms Lake with romantic stories of his youth and confesses his dream of seeing the ocean one last time. This short, by a gay filmmaker, has both some science fiction elements (time travel) and some gay elements, but to be considered either a sci fi or gay short both would miss classify and suggest something other than what this short actually is about - a very clever and interesting story about identity and self-perception.

This is the type of short that makes you want to see a longer feature by the writer/director, and also makes you want to know more about what happens to the protagonist. This is also the flaw, typical of shorts, that it is somewhat oblique and unresolved. Unfortunately, this is frequently the "nature of the beast," so to speak, due to funding and other time constraints. However, many aspects of this short are well handled, such as the time travel elements, with cleverness and imagination.

Canada has a long and rich history of quality indie film, and so Frozen Roads should have had a lot going for it. Unfortunately – despite the promise – the end result was rather disappointing.

The main issue with the film was the quality of acting on display. The lead characters appeared awkward and wooden – which under other circumstances might have been beneficial in order to convey the respective awkwardness of dealing with gay inclinations as a teenager. Unfortunately – this being a short – we weren’t afforded enough depth of character to make that judgement.

Focusing on the brother and sister leads, Christian (Kyle Mac) and Lyla (Carlyn Burchell), we learn that they are both share feelings for the same boy, Balthazar (Kevin DeCarli) – and the story that follows covers Christian’s stumbling attempts to convey his affections for his friend – who in turn reacts badly and the film culminates in an intense, yet perfunctory sex scene in the front of a truck as Balthazar struggles to come to terms with his emotions. The film is also split in the middle by a home-movie-style clip of the three as toddlers, enjoying a summer vacation – informing the audience that the three have been life-long friends. It appears abruptly and not only disrupts the flow of the film, but also confuses the audience as to its purpose in relation to the remainder of the story.

Fist of all, I should tell ya that I never been excited to watch a movie for a really long time; you know that excitement when you watch the trailer over 10 times in a row. yeah, I got excited this much to watch Laurence Anyways. and as a Xavier Dolan's huge fan that makes me know for sure that this movie is gonna be a pure art. and I don't even really care that much about directors. but DAMN! Xavier Dolan is the perfect man. No, I really mean it. he's gorgeous and talented in so many ways. Although all of the films he directs are about homosexuality, but what the heck! sometimes I hesitate to recommend any of his films to people I know cause I fear they might be narrow minded about all of the homosexuality stuff. Personally, I wouldn't mind watching a Xavier Dolan's film everyday and I'd still enjoy it as if it was the first time I watch it. I killed my mother, heartbeats, and now laurence anyways.

Laurence Anyways is almost 3hrs long. I thought I'd be bored. but somehow, something kept me watching. maybe it's wanting to know how the story ends. or maybe it's the great soundtrack, or the scenes that feed your soul visually. I mean really, why bother going to a photo gallery or a concert or whatsoever when you can simply watch Laurence Anyways or any film of Dolan's, and you'll find everything you love combined together beautifully. maybe I'm just exaggerating but that's because I'm this amazed.

At first, I thought Laurence and his girlfriend weren't' good looking enough, but anyone who watches this film will absolutely fall in love with every single character in the film. and somehow you'll find them extremely beautiful because you just feel their passion and stuff.

When I posted on twitter that I'm so excited to watch it. my friend replied saying, "it's a bold movie." well, I don't know how dirty films like the hangover are okay to watch and a masterpiece like this is "bold"! One thing I noticed about Xavier's Dolan films, is that he tries not to show us nude scenes, cause it ain't pretty. nobody wants to see butts or whatsoever, well, maybe perverts want to, but that's not the point. that is to say, even sex scenes are somehow beautiful and amazing, like the sex scene in 'I killed my mother' with all the painting and the sad sex desperate sex scenes in 'heartbeats'. you can clearly understand what Dolan is implying. In Laurence Anyways, Dolan portrays the relationship between Laurence and his girlfriend as a happy couple who are madly in love with each other, before they gradually collapse. What I'm truing to say here is that Dolan never fails at impressing his audience.

The soundtrack was painfully amazing, as always. the film stats with a song by 'fever ray' which made me realize that Dolan is a fan of this band. yeah? you remember the scene in the woods in 'heartbeats'? No? Okay. I swear if I had to steal one thing from Xavie Dolan it'd be his ipod or iphone or whatsoever. the man has an amazing taste in music.

When I done watching this film, I realized that 3 hours weren't enough. I wouldn't mind if it was 10 hours long or a series with a thousand seasons. it's just pure perfection. you know when you watch a perfect film that is so perfect to the extent that you wouldn't mind if it ends after only 5 minutes or in the middle of it because it's so perfect, and whatever the end is it'd still be great and perfect. yeah, Laurence Anyways is one of those films. and I'm still happy and impressed with the ending scene. the song was oh-my-god amazing. it's like it came into my soul and said hi and settled there. I can never get bored watching the ending scene; so simple yet perfect.

And before I forget, I love the almost 5 seconds Xavier appeared in the party scene. yeah keep it up babes.

In short, Laurence Anyways is 3 hours long, BUT, it's 3 hours of love, joy, regrets, tears, emotions, passion, and XAVIER DOLAN'S PERFECTION. Go watch it! and if you watch it and hate it then I'll hate you back.

Prije nekog vremena sam preko neta upoznao dva lika koja su bila u mom gradu. Potpuno su različiti jedan od drugog! Jedan onako ćutljiv, razbacan, potpuno muževan tip. a drugi brbljivac koji mi je išao na živce. Sjedali smo i pili neko vino, jedva uspostavljajući neku komunikaciju. Skoro pa mi je bilo nelagodno. Onaj brbljivac je pričao sam sa sobom nešto o tome kakvih ludaka ima na netu i slično. Ovaj drugi vidim nervira se, ali ćuti.
Taman sam pomislio da je bolje da se pokupim i odem kad ovaj što je jedva progovarao počne da se skida. Kada je ostao u bokserice brbljivac ga pita, jel to tebi vruće. Ovaj odgovori, nije vruće . al ajde skidaj se, pa da se jebemo. Ja se provalih od smjeha i pitah oću li se i ja skinuti.
Nakon seksa brbljivac više nije pričao , a ja i ovaj lik smo pričali i pili vino.
Poslije sam razmišljao o tome koliko se suprotnosti privlače. kako ona dva lika uopšte funkcionišu? Onog brbljivca ne bi trpio ni pet minuta da je nasamo samnom.

The plot of "Rock Haven" (2007) is simple and realistic, though far from original: is being gay an impossibility if you consider yourself a Christian as well?

Brady is a shy, introspective 18 year old spending the summer before going away to college in a small coast town in Northern California. He is there with his widowed mother, who is a devout Christian in the process of establishing a religious school for the local pastor. Brady spends most of his time either reading the bible or staring off at the waves crashing on shore, until he meets a neighbor's free- spirited visiting son, 19 year old Clifford. While we later find out that Brady had some early inklings that he was somewhat attracted to other boys, he never before felt drawn to anyone as he feels to Clifford, and the other boy makes it clear that the feeling is mutual. Sensing his apprehensions and inexperience, Clifford lets their relationship develop slowly over the course of the summer, and, although he kids Brady about being a "nerd" in many of his interests, is careful not to express a conflict with his religious upbringing and convictions.

In the film “Rock Haven,” religion, sexuality and romance collide as a deeply spiritual young man experiences his first love.

A beautifully written story by director/writer David Lewis ("Under One Roof"), capably acted by a talented Bay Area cast. While the basic plot is not original, and the story development somewhat predictable, it is told in a well-paced, sweet and romantic manner that lets the viewer feel the emotions experienced by the characters. The one negative I must point out is Lewis' seeming obsession with numerous extended scenes of waves crashing on the beach (Waves wash out like past experiences, wash back to erase what was on the sand before, metaphor for life going on, new beginnings, yadda yadda yadda ... WE GET IT! The ocean should not have more screen time than the actors!) Other than that, I enjoyed the film and recommend it, especially for those who may be going through a similar dilemma.

DVD has deleted scenes, production stills and trailer. No director commentary, which would have been nice (I'd have loved to hear what he says about the ocean scenes.

Lijepo sročena priča u kratkom filmu od 14 minuta.



Coming-of-age in summertime. Julian is a melancholic teenager on holiday at the cottage by the lake with his parents and his little brother. A world seems out-of-place, and the first "strange" emotions emerge... Lovely Canadian short film about a boy struggling with his sexual orientation and finally accepting it. A passage to adulthood - intimate and captivating.
The main attraction of this short film is Xavier Dolan in starring role. Xavier Dolan is young openly gay Canadian author (director, writer, actor, producer), born in 1989. He already made two excellent feature films:
J'ai tué ma mere - I Killed My Mother (2009)
Les amours imaginaires - Heartbeats (2010)
He wrote the script for his partly autobiographical I Killed My Mother when he was 16 years old (!), and he directed it, acted in it and produced it. The film was finished when he was 19 years old and received standing ovations in Cannes. Heartbeats is the story of three close friends who are involved in a love-triangle. More standing ovations.
This year Xavier Dolan's new film Laurence Anyways (2012) is coming out, dealing with transsexuality: "Tells the story of impossible love between a man and a woman after the man decided to have a sex change

Na moju nesreću ja sam jedino muško dijete u mojoj porodici. Otac me je uvjek smatrao njegovim naslijednikom koji će produžiti porodično stablo. Kod nas U Crnoj Gori tu čast imaju sinovi, za kćerke se računa da su promjenile prezime i njihova djeca pripadaju drugoj kući.
Tako je to na balkanu. A šta ako ste sin jedinac i pri tome gay? Treba li ispoštovati tradiciju, oženiti se i imati djecu ili prekinuti porodično stablo? Razočarenje za roditelje saznanjem da se nećete oženiti i da neće imati unuke je dio svake coming out priče, al je nekako lakše kada je tu u blizini brat koji će ispraviti stvar.
Postoje i mnogi primjeri da se gay oženi, ima djecu i time podmiri sve ono što od njega očekuje društvena zajednica i porodica. Većinom se nakon nekog vremena vrate svojoj pravoj prirodi balansirajući između porodice koju su stvorili i želje za muškom ljubavi.

Ovaj film nam govori o mladom vjetnamcu, sinu jedincu koji se našao u procjepu između ljubavi prema prijatelju sa kojim redovno trenira plivanje i porodice koja jasno pokazuje šta želi od njega.

The Golden Pin is a student short film focusing on the life of Long (Duangphung), a Vietnamese-Canadian young man who finds himself on the crossroads of following his heart or fulfilling his family’s expectations. Let me tell you, there’s no greater burden for traditional families (disregarding any ethnicity) than to have offspring follow in the “correct” footsteps, so when we hear Long’s father say that he wanted Long to continue the family line because there was no other family member to do so… it feels like a bucket of cold water.

What would you really do being the last one to carry the family name? Sure, there are other options for Long and Ryan (Böhm) to have children of their own and carry their respective family’s name, but to make such decision at that point in their relationship would have seemed rushed. Instead, Long’s mother (Nguyen) decides to tell her son about her own story… though, I feel she was giving me a bit of a mixed signal there.

In the end, The Golden Pin doesn’t really give you the answer Long or us are looking for, instead just poses the question.

Angelo je momak odrastao u tradicionalnoj kanadskoj italijanskoj porodici koja svake nedelje ide u crkvu i trudi se da bude poštvana u zajednici. Nino je Agelov najbolji prijatelj, takođe italijan. U srednjoj školi su prestati biti prijatelji jer su svi nekako znali da je Angelo gay.
Kada su odrasli sreli su se ponovo. Nino kao zgodni policajac i Angelo kao neuspješni pisac su se zaljubili i odlučili da žive zajedno i jebu se sretno do kraja života.
Naravno svaka bajka se zakomplicira pa i ova, posebno kada Angelo kaže roditeljima da je omossesuale.
Komedija koja će vas sigurno nasmijati, ali i vratiti u našu balkansku stvarnost koja nije daleko od ove priče.
Podsjetila me na moga prijatelja R. sa kojim sam proveo nekoliko lijepih godina. Lijep i zgodan plijenio je srca mnogih žena koje bi me razočarane što ih neće  mrzile još više. Al jebi ga, volio je mene. Na žalost i naša bajka se završila, ali o tome nekom drugom prilikom.
Danas je oženjen, ima dvoje đece kao i ja i uživa u sretnom braku. Naravno u svom kalendaru i dalje ima svoj gay dan kada ode na porciju dobrog kurca ili u nedostatku istog dobre muške guze.

Mambo Italiano is a 2003 Canadian comedy-drama film directed by Émile Gaudreault. The screenplay was written by Gaudreault and Steve Galluccio, based on Galluccio's theatrical play by the same name. Both the play and the film are based on Galluccio's own life and experiences.
Angelo Barberini is the oddball son of Italian immigrants Gino and Maria, who inadvertently ended up in Canada rather than the United States of America. Angelo shocks his parents - and his sister, Anna - by moving out on his own without getting married, and, shortly after that, shocks them further still when he reveals as gay. But his boyfriend (and childhood best friend), policeman Nino Paventi, isn't as ready to come out of the closet - especially not to his busybody Sicilian mother, Lina.
