Review by Queer Beacon
Good movie. You'll feel all good and hoping the world could be like the movie, with fathers getting along with their gay sons. Here, Russell Crowe, yes him, plays a big gay. Jack Thompson plays his father. They have an awesome relationship. Jack is extremely supportive and accepts Crowe's homosexuality like I've never seen in a father-son relationship before.
There are constant reminders that the father is super supportive. He pushes for safe sex. He keeps hoping Russell will find Mr. Right. He tells Russell how lucky he is to have him for a son, it goes on and on. Seriously, see the movie with someone you like because you'll want to kiss someone.
To top it all off, Russell's grandmother was a lesbian and she is remembered fondly, and Russell plays footy. He's just a nice and ordinary guy. You will also get to see various types of gays in the movie. Queens, older gays, butch gays (like Crowe) etc. It's great when movies reflect the wide range of gays available.
Forget that you hate Russell. If you see this movie you might actually like him. The movie was shot in 1994, he was 30 then.

There was some homophobia elsewhere in the movie but not inside Crowe's house, and the homophobia was portrayed as something bad. After the jump there is a little discussion on the mentioned homophobia (which will sort of give away part of the plot).

Genre: Short movie

Official Sites: Official Website for 'Gorilla'

Stars: Gary Abrahams, Chloé Boreham, Alex Duncan

Onako, pričali smo uz pivo i ležali putujući među tim zvjezdama tražeći malog princa izgubljenog među njima.

gorilla from Tim Marshall on Vimeo.

On a camping trip with his new boyfriend, Joel questions when the universe will end. His boyfriend, Sean, plays a game, having Joel close his eyes and pick a random word from a book as his answer. The word is 'gorilla'. The next day, a mysterious woman arrives at their secluded campsite and Joel comes across a sinister gorilla mask in her bag.

‘gorilla’ is a story about the unknowns in our lives and the questions we'll never know the answers to.

The film has screened at festivals the world over, having its premiere at Palm Springs International Short Film Festival. In 2013, the film won the prestigious Iris Prize (the world's largest LGBT short film prize), awarding Tim £25,000 to make his next short film in Wales, UK in 2014. Love Bytes was made under the Metro Screen Story to Screen initiative.

Jade shows off her new girlfriend, ce-lez-bian DJ, Samantha Fox, whilst Michael looks forward to meeting up with the man of his online dreams. Jade and Stacey get caught up in his dating dilemma and it becomes a herpes fuelled nightmare for all of them.

Episode 2 – Justin Beaver:

What a wonderful film!

8I saw this film for the first time at MQFF (Melbourne Queer Film Festival) and it blew me away with it's sensitive characterizations, elegant cinematography and beautiful use of music. This film was made on a micro budget and should be used as a yard stick for other indie film makers to live up to. This movie shows what can be accomplished with determination, drive and vision.
The plot is a straight forward coming of age story and whilst we have seen this type of thing before, we've never seen it told in quiet the same way with sparse beauty and compassion. The two main leads are destined for future success if this is any indication of what they are capable of. They are both charismatic and charming. They anchor the film and give it a gravity, sense of humor and emotional core. All the support actors are outstanding as well - they range from heavy and down right nasty to quirky, off beat and genuinely funny.
99The location filming in Melbourne's western suburbs gives the film a real slice of life feel that every Australian growing up in the burbs will relate to. The local area portrayed in the film becomes almost a character unto itself.
Both the score and songs are well used and add huge production value to this little film. The editing is slightly rough around the edges but it actually adds to the character of the film. I found it worked even better on a repeated viewing. We do tend to be so used to seeing bigger budget films that are slickly cut together whereas Monster Pies is a personal vision and works on a purely personal, one on one level. That is all part of the films magic.
4The direction and writing from Lee Galea show a maturity and depth of understanding of both film and the subject matter. For a second feature with a tiny budget this film rocks. Lee is obviously a child of the 90's and pays loving homage to them with great attention to detail. From local video libraries to phones with cords. I for one cannot wait to see what he makes next!
Try watching this film with an open mind and heart and I think you'll walk away from it slightly changed forever. I know I have.

Umijete li opisati sebe?
Iskreno i bez zadrške izgovorite ono što krijete duboko u sebi.
Pogledajte ovaj kratak film pa pokušajte i vi napisati neko iskreno pismo - samom sebi.

Seventeen-year-old Kim Ho was one of the winners of the 2012 monologue competition Love Bytes, held by Fresh Ink, a development program for emerging playwrights from the Australian Theatre for Young People.

As one of the competition’s winners, Kim was assisted with transforming his original three-minute video entry, Transcendence — which tells the story of a young gay teen struggling with his sexuality and the love he feels for a boy in his French class — into the beautiful nine-minute short film The Language of Love.

“Homosexuality is still a sensitive topic, and I immediately felt pressured to write something that was candid but not disrespectful to the LGBT community,” Ho explains on the Fresh Ink website. “I wanted to write something that would make me cry just like the stunning It’s Time advertisement for marriage equality, something that would resonate with people no matter what their sexuality.”

The result can be seen in the video below, a short film that plants roots in the heart of anyone who has experienced the wonder, fear, and excitement of first love.

Dva momka, jedan vidi, drugi je slijep, vide svijet i svoja tjela na drugačiji način. Neočekivano, oni pronalaze vezu izvan vizuelno u sudaru ukusa, dodira i zvuka. Veza je senzualna, a unutar nje svako pronalazi nešto.

Two young men - one sighted, one blind - see the world and their bodies in different ways. Unexpectedly, they find a connection beyond the visual in the collision of taste, touch and sound. The connection is sensual, and within it they each find something new.
In the sensitive category, Grant Scicluna's Neon Skin is a vaguely homoerotic dialogue between a visually impaired man (Luke Mullins) and his skinny helper (Martin Sharpe).

A story of sacrifice for love, The Wilding follows Malcolm, a hardened borstal inmate, who’s in love with his cellmate Tye. As Malcolm faces an opportunity for parole, a feud with other inmates escalates, with Tye being targeted as Malcolm’s weak spot. Malcolm is forced to choose between his own freedom and protecting the one he loves.
Most short films are mini-movies in themselves. They often suffer having been crammed into such a short space. It is very difficult for filmmakers to convey enough in 15 minutes: something usually falls short, be it narrative or character development.
The Wilding, on the other hand, is a brief glimpse into a story which has been running before you arrived, and will continue long after you have left. It is a window into somebody’s very existence: the narrative is his life, and these are just a few events that occur within. A fleeting glimpse, like crossing a river, you experience just a small part of the waterway, but are acutely aware of its full might.
This is raw Australian filmmaking at its best. Combining the visceral brutality of Romper Stomper and the gritty terror of Chopper, The Wilding holds its own against films of this caliber, while still shocking those numb to their effects.
The fly-on-the-wall camera style, while very rarely distracting, serves to heighten the realism and tension as you become part of the story. In an instant you are there. It is no longer a film, they are no longer actors. You are in the borstal, present at each event, every fight, every suspense. It is electric and it is terrifying.
It is refreshing to see a gruff fighter as a confident gay man. There are no camp stereotypes here, no mincing and no effeminate voices. Malcolm is a brute, a ruffian. His moments of tenderness are subtly detectable under a coarse exterior. The acting is mesmerising.
Even the corrupt and manipulative warden has enough of the cliches to satisfy the audience’s need for familiarity, but Scicluna still turns the stereotype on its head. While his methods and means are questionable, his motives are clear: the warden has Malcolm’s best interests at heart.
With enough breathing space in each scene for you to imagine what is going through the minds of the characters during each event, the action is still a hostile assault on the senses. Your skin will ripple with goosebumps as Malcolm’s determinedly satisfied stare cuts through the warden, time slowing to a grinding halt leaving the question: ‘Why?’
Love. That’s why.
Overall Opinion: Given the brevity of the film, its ability to invoke shivers and spark adrenaline surges is incredible. Your eyes will be wide, pupils dilated, too transfixed to look away; too involved to even blink. The unsteady camera serves to heighten the realism, fueling the rush as you are transported there, and put into danger. The tribal portrayals are brutal, the romance as delicate as it can be in such a setting. How can a love story be so horrifyingly chilling and heart-warming at the same time? This is a gripping masterpiece.

Slijedi upoznavanje u četiri oka i priča. Podigne glavi kaže : Ošamari me. Ja u čudu, kako da šamaram tolikog čovjeka. On opet ponovi da ga ošamarim. Blago ga pljesnem po licu, a on kaže jače. Kada sam shvatio šta želi toliko sam pobjesnio da sam ga zaista išamarao i izmlatio ga ko pseto.
Nisam uživao u tome, posebno ne u nekom seksualnom smislu. Naprosto izduvao sam se.
Zato nikad ne reci - NIKAD!

Bound And Thrashed is a story which echoes the idea that its not until we are put in a situation that may seen unnatural to us, that we can truly uncover what we desire and what we are capable of. Nathan (Andrew Hood) is depressed and unable to move on from a former lover, his concerned friend Tess (London Gabraelle) persuades him into going on a blind date with Geoffrey (John Cunningham), an older man who has an unusual appetite. Nathans encounter with Geoffrey ultimately assists him in moving on from the past and leads him to self discovery and sexual fulfillment.

C2Like his bittersweet short The Burning Boy, here writer and director Kieran Galvin again takes delight in charting the emotions of love, loss and longing.

Only this time Galvin tells the tale of thirty-something Paul; a closeted man who still mourning the death of his partner Alex, opts to return home to his family in Queensland, an ill-advised decision, given the Alex they knew was nothing more than a friend of their son. Unable to share his grief with his family and seemingly alone in the homophobic surfing community of his birth, his only ray of sunshine is time spent with his brothers’ children. Seaside fun, that sees him take to writing graffiti on the beach styled changing room walls, a toilet message board system that alarmingly reflects the sexual prejudices of the locals, just as it equally shows that he is not alone. Only who is the other gay in the village, that of a mysterious contact looking for friendship and perhaps something more?

C3Based on the short story of the same name by John Lonie and vividly depicted in monochrome, as intercut with colour flashbacks to happier times spent with the love of his life, here Galvin has triumphantly delivered a work that is as lovingly shot, as it is emotionally scored. Only in this instance, it arrives with a more upbeat ending than previous, even if the mournful nature of the narrative is all but ingrained into the celluloid. For this is the story of a son who has become a stranger to his family, unable to mourn the loss of his partner without giving away the true nature of his sexuality. That Paul sees in his friendship with another gay man, a means to be open with his feelings, is all but clear. Yet in knowing the age difference between the two, Galvin interestingly cuts the film short, that of a conclusion deliberately left open for you to decide what happens next.

For just how old is this flirtatious youth? How would their friendship have developed? And just how did Paul’s partner actually die? Unanswered questions that tell of a short being - well, just too short. But oh, it's so beautifully told.

Multi-award winning short film. Grieving from the death of his male partner, Paul - who is not out to his family, returns home to spend time with them but his lonliness drives him towards a teenage boy. From director Kieran Galvin (The Burning Boy)

Every second of surfing footage in this film is so mind-blowingly gorgeous, you won’t want to take your eyes off the screen. Which is good, because almost nothing else is going to grab your attention.

The Hoff family has three brothers: Jesse (Lachlan Buchanan) , a 17 year old wanna-be surfer, living in the shadow of former surf champion and half-brother Victor (Reshad Strik), whose life is in ruins due to a knee injury and a drinking problem; and Fergus (Xavier Samuel), who dies his hair purple, wears nail polish and Clash t-shirts, and is in the midst of discovering that he might be homosexual.

Opening with tryouts for a surf competition that would catapult the winner into the International circuit, the film meanders through the various struggles of the three boys and their friends, broken up by those gorgeous surfing shots mentioned earlier (and speaking of gorgeous, it’s worth noting that every young person in this movie is extremely good looking, and often nearly naked as well).

A turning point is reached when the teenagers decide to lie to their parents and take a camping trip on the beach to do what typical teenagers do: smoke pot, drink, have sex – and surf, of course. When Victor winds up at the same beach and finds Jesse practicing in order to be the next champion, egos rise and a fierce competition results in (highly predictable) tragedy.

Family Outing (2001) - short

Family Outing (2001)

Family Outing followed a young man into a Bowen Hills bathhouse taking the 'added experience' of the 'special tube' only to exit the room and run into his Dad!!!, a 'true story' and a dark little tale) which included a butterfly somewhere, however dubiously or contrived in the action, many of the other films embraced, nay revelled in some key themes associated with the central motif.

This simple black and white short is like watching an urban myth - in which a young man takes his first trip to a gay sauna and is so terrified of everything that he slinks into a tiny cubicle to hide, then discovers the glory hole. Then he gets a very big surprise. When the title "a true story" appeared at the end, the audience howled and applauded.

What Grown-Ups Know (2004)

What Grown-Ups Know (2004)

Kako ste izgubili nevinost?

Teenaged Roy and his slutty mother flee from his abusive father. They run into trailer-park owner Maurice, to whom Roy is attracted. As Roy's mother begins to die, Roy may either seek false security in Maurice's arms or become a man and confront his mother's illness

Roy's mom and dad have split and Roy and his mom are on the road. They are struggling to make ends meet, skipping out on motel bills and earning money in a series of dead end jobs. As if life on the road isn't hard enough Roy is struggling with his growing awareness that he's gay.

His two problems mix when he encounters a man in a public toilet and then recognizes him again as the owner of the caravan park where Roy and his mother have settled in. Roy is inexperienced and deeply confused but he thinks he's got an idea of how he and his mom can make the rent...

This coming of age short was well conceived and started off well but became a bit depressing and muddled toward the end. I'm unclear whether the story was the problem or whether it was the way that the story was presented but I am certainly interested in seeing the director's other efforts.

Dva mladica, Luka i Niko, zaljubljeni jadan u drugoga zive u homofobičnoj atmosferi Gruzijskog grada Tbilisija.
Podnose emigrantsku aplikaciju u Australijskoj abmbasadi.
